Bald patches

Hi

Minnie our de sexed female was paired with a male piggy and they had a lovely friendship, the male died so after 2 weeks we got another male for her, they have been together about 2 months now, they seem to get on well although the new male is much more dominant than the previous male.

That is Minnie's back ground.

I have noticed Minnie now has 2 bald patches on her sides, she is eating and drinking normally.

Are the bald patches anything to worry about.

Hi!

Can you please post a picture and see a vet if possible. Do you still have that vet with guinea pig interest in Perth who posted a few years ago on Facebook?

New guinea pigs can unfortunately come with skin problems, whether that is ringworm (the most aggressive and contagious skin infection which can also be transmitted to humans and other species pets) or mange or hay mites. They need different but good quality treatment and good hygiene to get on top of. Normal low dosed broad spectrum pet shop products are not good enough.

Where abouts are the bald patches? How old is Minnie?

Bald patches can be numerous problems - mites, lice, ringworm, ovarian cysts so I think a vets appointment is going to be necessary to find out what the cause is
