bald patches

We have 2 piggies, mother and daughter however Mum seems to be getting very bald from her neck down to the top of her stomach, we also thought she may have a lump but it seems the bottom of her rib cage is protruding quite far. The daughter (who is now 5 months old, not a newborn) is also a bit patchy under her armpits. They don't seem to be scratching a lot. We change their bedding once a week (hay & sawdust), is that enough or likely to be the cause, we did change the both the hay and the sawdust we were using but this has not made any difference? We live in rural Ireland and the vets are not very good with small animals so can anyone here help before I take them in as a last resort?
 
welcome to the forums from me and the girls in oz :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: know how you feel about vets, lucky to find a piggy savy vet in 1 out of 1000 vets. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: it sounds like mites or maybe an allergy, perhaps send maryh a private message as her vet who is wonderful emails vets all over the world and helps them to help piggies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: other than that i am sure someone will come along soon to help you. welcome again and hugs and cuddles to you and your girls. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and my girls send :-* :-* :-*
 
They could have mites. These are invisible to the eye and you can't get rid of them just by changing bedding. If it is mites they have they will need Ivermectin treatment from the vets.

If you wait hopefully someone with more experience will offer advice :)
