Our rescue girl Gypsy ( who was routinely treated with ivermectin the day we got her (no sign of mites then) has been loosing hair since we got her 2 weeks ago. She was attacked badly by my gang of 4 and treated with antibiotics for that and the scabs and bites have healed up well however she now has a lot of clean bald patches in her coat, not just where she had the scabs and when you touch her she squeals as if in pain? She is not red or sore looking at all, there is no scurf or dandruff to be seen? I thought the moulting was down to her being brought indoors as she had been living outside - the fur isnt coming of like it was so I think it is possible that it was shock/stress that caused it? She is such a timid little pig but I dont think it is just that she doesnt like being handled, she really objects to her body being touched but responds well to ears and nose and head rubs! Should she be treated again for mites or could it be something else?

It may be stress related as you say. I personally would keep away from handling too much right now and let her totally settle in, making sure she's well fed etc and keep an eye on her and see if it improves.

After she seems a bit happier then go on to handling her. Just personal opinion! Hope everything works out for you :) Xx

Ooh I haven't noticed her pulling it out? But I will watch closer now... I thought handling her would help but yes she is very stressed out - she was living in a swamp of filthy rainwater at the bottom of an indoor cage (kept outside!) when we got her :( i wondered if she needed a second dose of the ivermectin or a bath?

You could try one of the gorgeous guineas shampoos. But if she's already stressed a bath migh not be the best idea. I used their Kwench lotion very successfully on Guiness when she had what we think was an allergic skin reaction and kept chewing her belly fur.

It is possible they are just the bald patches from bite injuries. You may not have seen the injury when it was done, but sometimes they loose an area of fur around it as it heals and it can take a little while for the new fur to grow through.

Aww, Bless her! Discusting how some people treat animals!

Yeah, she's obviously been through alot hun. It may take her a while to settle down. I'm sure, though once she feel secure and realises she going to be well fed and clean and warm etc.

You may find she will turn out to be one of the most soppiest guineas you've known! haha.

But yeah I think just watching her for now would be best. Keep us posted on her! <3 Xx

I would have her checked for mites, just to be on the safe side. With all the stress that is a real likelihood.
