Just been cleaning out Misty and giving her some cuddles and noticed she has a bald spot behind each ear. She has one on her head which has been there since we got her as a mini pig (like a parting on her crown) but I do not recall these behind her ears. They are smooth and not in a round shape, she has not been scratching there and it is not red or showing dry skin. A while ago she shed a lot of hair and vet said it was nothing to worry about, that has not happened since.

I have been looking up fungal and mites but it doesn't really fit either description :... Plan to book her a vets appointment asap, just wondered if anyone had any ideas? Have been looking at the gorgeous guineas products, she is due a bath so may get some of their products again too. I have tried to take a photo but madam was not cooperative, and my pc won't bluetooth them from my phone anyway! mallethead

Please reassure me about these mystery patches!

Don't worry! All piggys have bald spots behind their ears. Its perfectly normal

Thankyou for help xoxo I feel reassured but think I will pop her to vets as I don't remember them being this big before ?/

Bald patches behind the ears are Jeffreys favourite scratchy place - under the chin comes a close second!

Yep, its normal.

x.

Feel a bit of an idiot now, maybe husband moved her hair round differently - he spotted them bigger than I remembered! :red:red

Oh well, better to be safe than sorry! ")") She is due an 'MOT' anyway so will mention it when she goes, to be on the safe side!

Don't feel like an idiot hun. This is what the forum is all about, if you're not sure just ask. I find they're more noticible on some pigs than others. The bald patches on the inside of their legs are normal as well, it helps them regulate their temperature.

I don't know how old your piggy is but I noticed with mine that their bald patches got bigger as they got older & smooth haired or Aby piggies seem to have bigger bald bits rolleyes

I've noticed that too when I had an aby... she had huge bald spots behind her ears! My daughter always liked to lay her finger there because it was warm! LOL! My short-haired guinea pig seems to have medium bald spots, and my sheltie cross you actually have to push fur out of the way to find her bald spots because she has a big ruff around her neck!

My short-haired piggies have itty bitty bald patches, but my lovely Lunkarya has big patches behind her ears! :)
