We just got our 2 piggies couple of months back. I noticed a bald spot on our Abyssinian. Photo attached. Can anyone identify it and let me know what may be causing this? Also, how to treat it?

Thanks.

I would take your piggie to the vet, it could be mites or a fungal infection.

Yes I agree with above. It's going to be either mites, lice or fungal infection. A vet needs to diagnose so that you can get the appropriate treatment nice and early to prevent it becoming a bigger problem

Hi and welcome

Please see a vet for a diagnosis.

You are either dealing with a fungal skin infection (at the worst ringworm) or less likely in that spot with mange mites or hay mites. Since it is in the very early stages, it can be either as they can look a lot more similar than textbook images are suggesting.

Please accept that we cannot diagnose just from a picture and that fungal and skin parasites require different treatments but that it is important to treat with a proper product and rather do it right than mucking around at home on spec with cheap low dosed shop products that only at the best suppress symptoms but not cure the problem.

Take the time to read this link here. The guide deals with both ringworm and guinea pig skin parasites. You will find all the necessary information in there, including links to recommended vets in several countries: What to check and look out for in new guinea pigs (vet checks, sexing, parasites&illness)
