Something that has always confused me is the little bald spots behind guinea pig ears. I'm aware that they're perfectly normal, but I was wondering if anyone knew what the purpose of them is?

I had a total panic when I first discovered mine - with all the research I had done I'd somehow missed anything about these bald spots! I think one of the theories about them is that they're to help with 'air conditioning' although I don't know how true that is.

Thank you! One of my theories was that their fur irritated their ears, so the bald spots were to avoid their ears touching their fur. Hahah!:lol!:
I have searched online about the topic, but I only got websites where people were worried about the bald spots. Nothing showed up about the purpose for them, though. The air conditioning thing seems like a good one.

As above, I hear it is to help them regulate their temperature when they are hot or cold. =)
