Balding Guinea Pig Thats Lost Weight Suddenly ?reason

I have a guinea pig he is about 4 years old now, he has just recently appeared to have lost a lot of weight very quickly and his fur has come off on his underside, he is still eating well and drinking and is very perky, but I have also noticed that he is having trouble passing his faeces, they don't come out looking normal shape and consistency for a guinea pig, its like he has lost his anal tone. I would be grateful for any comments thanks.
 
please see a vet as soon as you can, this is exactly what happened to my pig who sadly passed away last night due to gut stasis. dont leave it too late!
 
Hi welcome to the forum. I agree he needs to see a vet, there could be a number of reasons for the symptoms you describe, my first thought would be a fungal issue that can track up from the gut and affect their hair too. Only a vet can diagnose though. Please could you update your location on our profile too as it helps with the information we can give you.
