Banana

Bananas are tricky, I tried them out to try encourage tiny Puggle to eat after her bloat put her off a lot of other foods... but banana likes seemed to correlate directly with heft, the fatties ate them all up and the medium weight pigs nibbled a bit of the skin, Puggle was terrified of them altogether, so we gave it up after 1 go because big pig Clover ended up hoovering up everyone else's left over banana bits and probably eating over half a banana altogether!

They both ate them, I’m not sure it’s something I’ll keep giving though, because they didn’t seem too fussed

Do you know that the (organic) skin can be equally fed, contains exactly the same nutrients and is generally more liked by piggies that the inner bit?

However, banana is a fruit...
I didn’t know that! I’ll try the skin next time I have one, unfortunately I chucked in it the bin this time, didn’t occur to me that they could have the peel

Mine generally liked the peel more than the middle, I gave them all slices of unpeeled banana... except fatty Clover who ate all the middles and most of the skins, and tiny Puggle who seemed traumatised by the whole event as she much prefers a bit of predictable carrot!

Thanks for this information. I have never tried banana with my Finn and Lara.
They love apple, blueberry and most of all carrot.

Carrot is the equivalent of a burger for humans - and as addictive for piggies... As long as you give a little as a treat and do not feed it regularly, it is fine. ;)

How much of the peel can they have between two boys?
I can’t see it being appealing but if they like it... 😂

I give about one peel between thirty piggies - not all of them love banana in any form.

Thanks! Didn’t want to give too much because they might waste it!

Smokey enjoyed it, but I don’t think Bacon did! He kept walking away from it then going back to nibble at it some more, hoping it would be better!

While Micah was dependent on syringe feeding I mashed a piece of banana into the Critical Care and he wolfed it down.
Now he just needs building up so I gave him a tiny piece of banana in his cage which was completely ignored :bye:

Apparently it’s ok mashed in Critical Care but not any other way!

How much of the skin would you give them? Would you cut it up into strips? I don’t usually get organic bananas do they have to be?

Didn’t go down very well, just found the evidence when cleaning the cage!
