hello,

i read that guinea pigs like bananas so i got my girls one to try. i only gave them half a banana and they really liked it. how much should you give them? it's quite rich so i don't want to give them too much as they might end up with yucky poo! i have three piggies that all live together.

thanks

Cat :)

i tried my 2 with a few banana slices yesterday and they didnt touch them. I've heard it's ok to leave the skin on for them......?

I heard that the skin was ok left on. I dont even bother feeding this cos mine dont touch it. I think you should only give now and again, but that's only something I heard!

I give each of my pigs about an inch of bananna and they only get that 1-2 times a month, you can leave the skin on but make sure you wash it first :)

My piggies love banana skin washed of course, I never give them the inside.

i didnt know they could eat the skin, my 2 do like a bit of `nana though, will just give them the skin next time!

Banana is a good source of potassium for a dehydrated piggie, or a piggie with the runs, but I don't give it very often normally. I think it's also rather sugary so not the best food - I think of it as a 'pick me up' type of food rather than a staple food. I've only ever given the inside though.

(The skins actually contain a chemical relaxant - humans can smoke them to get 'high'!)

Mine get banana about once a week to two weeks. They don't really like the banana part and won't eat the skin on its own but if I slice it with the skin on they eat the skin off it with a slight bit of banana on it. They are fussy monkies ! :))

Haha! Well everyday is a school day! I may have to spark up a banana skin after a hard days work! ;) x

With respect smoking banana skins will not get you high, that is a lie told to college freshman by seniors. My pigs are not interested in bananas as food so I don't have much to say there.

my 2 love banana if i walk past thier cage eating one they wheeeeek untill I give them a bit, They've also started eating sprouts...but only if i chop them in half
