Hello everyone. Sorry for not updating sooner but time flies when one has demanding piggies that need to be adored :luv::roll:

So it's been just over 12 weeks that I've had my two rescued piggies. Piggy-train delivered by three fabulous people including @AidaB from Debbie @furryfriends (TEAS)

My boys have continued to gain confidence and I really can't imagine life without them. They are cheeky and so full of life and mischief that I'm always laughing at them and their antics.
In the mornings, they have free roam time when their palace is being cleaned out and the lounge floor is covered in houses, tunnels and all sorts of things to explore, leap on or destroy. I've never has piggies before that have been so excitable... is that an Abyssinian thing? they are just crazy! They don't just popcorn, I call it 'attack of the leapy jumpies' because they just throw themselves around as if they have no control and being attacked by some invisible force that's tickling their bottoms. They leap around wheeking and they do zoomies like a dog :)) Very comical to watch.

Sometimes, Jester, who is the biggest and the dominant piggy will be a real pain to Bandit for a while but it all calms down again very quickly. They do Sumo strutting, not just rumble strutting, they do slow back leg stomps like a Sumo wrestler but they shriek at each other excitedly for a while then it's business as normal. They are very different to other piggies I've had and do odd things but they are happy and really enjoying life. Anyone else have weird piggies like that?

I do a daily health check and weekly weigh-in plus piggy pedicure with coconut oil foot massages as they both get dry hobbity feet.

The best things I've bought them are Rosewood large hay cube and carrot cottages. The boys love to rip them to pieces and they are a great way to keep them occupied. They both love to burrow into the hay cube and sleep in it but the piggies are so big that there is always a bottom or legs sticking out. Not sure how I resist poking the fat bottoms :D

The boys love their routine and insist they are fed in a timely manner otherwise the shrieking gets so loud that I'm scared the police will be called. They get freedom to run in the afternoon too but most of the time they aren't interested in coming out and prefer to stay in their palace awaiting their afternoon "special" hay and herb sprinkles.

I'm very fortunate that these piggies just love their hay and eat so much of it. They are also very good drinkers which is something I've never had with piggies before but its a huge relief.

Both boys adore their cuddles and lap time but they always let me know when they need a wee so have never peed on me. As soon as they wiggle their bums and look up at me, I hold my hands out, say "come on then" and they climb onto my hands to be put back to bed. They are such good boys and have trained me very well.

I'm sure everyone knows how much piggies love their pea flakes but I did read that they should be limited to 5 per day for each pig. A YouTube video I saw recently though said an exotics vet warned that any piggy with digestive issues shouldn't have pea flakes at all due to the way they are broken down and digested. So, even though my boys have no issues, I only give three pea flakes a day as their morning treat. My RB piggies were never that bothered by pea flakes but Bandit and Jester think they are the best thing in the World so I hope I never have to stop giving them completely.

I will add pictures and update more soon. Sorry for the essay, I just adore them so much :love:IMG_20221126_152412 - Copy.webpIMG_20221201_121936.webp

Thank you for updating us, I'm so pleased to hear you are loving having those boys. Jester and Bandit certainly landed on their little paws when they came to you. Sounds like they have what is called by some as abytude! I love aby's they are so much fun.
Jester reminds me of Spike, sadly no longer with us in body but very much still here in spirit.

Abytude... well that makes heaps of sense :)) My boys certainty are so full of abytude. Not had Abyssinian piggies before and they are absolutely insane.. but in a really lovely way.
Your picture is so cute, he looks so much like Bandit with the black eye patches. Looks like the hay cube was a favourite, don't they just love to destroy them and it keeps them busy for a while.
Sorry to hear of Spike, I'm sure he was a huge character. They are always with us in our hearts and in the precious memories we have of them.

Hello everyone,
I've probably posted this in the wrong place so apologies... I've just carried on from my last update.

So, last Monday (5th August) my sweet and precious Bandit crossed the Rainbow Bridge. 🌈

Bandit and Jester were doing so well and having great lives but then Bandit started to struggle eating and lost some weight. I just knew it was the start of dental issues. I think that once you have a dental pig, you're forever on hyper alert. As I suspected, Bandit's teeth were a little overgrown but I'd caught it early and only the front bottom premolars were long and the rest of the teeth were flat and nicely worn so I was hopeful that we could go a longer period before needing to be trimmed again.
Six weeks and a day later, I saw the first signs that all was not well again so off we go to the vets for another teeth trim. Unfortunately Bandit didn't start eating again and after another few vet visits that week, it was clear that there was something else going on. Syringe feeding, finely cut veg, grass and hay along with high doses of pain meds saw us through the weekend but the vet and I knew that Monday would be the deciding day.
Unfortunately, it was time to let Bandit go as he was in too much pain to continue and had lost 100g over a few weeks. It was three months before his 3rd birthday 😢
The vet was fantastic, a new vet and exotics specialist. He said he'd just had a similar piggy to Bandit and on xray they discovered a growth in the jaw and the little one was PTS. He didn't recommend an xray as there would be nothing he could do but he suspected the same. Bandit was on 1.6ml pain meds towards the end as I knew it was only temporary but even on that, he still could only eat chopped up foods.

About 6 months previous to Bandit's dental issues, my boys were separated and became bar buddies. Jester was always the dominant piggy but Bandit was trying his luck and would initiate fights that Jester would always win. Never blood or fur flying, I never let it get that far but Bandit was so stressed that I made the decision to separate hoping that as they got older, it may have been possible to have them together again one day.
As soon as they were separated, they were the best of friends and would lay next to each other either side of the bars which they'd never done before. They were happier and loved stealing each other's hay through the bars and rumbling and chatting together. They were happy.

Now I just have Jester and thankfully, as he was used to living alone, he's doing ok. I let him say goodbye to Bandit when we came back from the vets so he knew Bandit was gone. Jester watched over Bandit in his last week which was so sweet.
Jester is happy to have extra cuddles and attention but I think he would be happier with piggy company. As Jester is neutered, I'm looking to get two young females. My local rescue has 6 females together on pregnancy watch so if they do have babies, we're on the list already.

I may not have had Bandit for as long as I had hoped but I know his time with me was full of happiness and he was a very contented piggy with the loudest WHEEEEK when he was waiting for dinner. He is sadly missed.

In loving memory of my sweet and precious boy, Bandit xx❤️xx

I am sorry you had to make the heartbreaking decision to release Bandit from pain. He would have known you loved him and reading your tribute you will keep treasured memories of him close to your heart. Sending hugs
Rest peacefully Bandit 🌈

Thank you so much everyone. I'm sure you've all been through the heartbreak yourselves of losing a beautiful and precious fur-baby so I'm sorry for bringing back sad memories.
It still feels so raw and at times like last night, eating strawberries, I smiled thinking of how Bandit would have reacted, he hated fruit and would always run away and glare at me as though I'd just tried to poison him... And that starts the tears again.
I know it wasn't my fault but I just can't help but feel guilty that I couldn't do more, that I couldn't save him and take the pain away. He was so young and it just feels very unfair 😢

I am so sorry to hear you had to let Bandit go. You did absolutely the right thing for him, saving him so much pain. These little furries leave such a huge hole in our hearts. I find it's so much harder losing them when they are young. It always hurts to say goodbye but I think we are more prepared when we share their lives into old age. I remember you having your boys and their journey via piggy train.
Be kind to yourself as you grieve for Bandit, you gave him a wonderful home and a happy life with you.

Thank you so much.
The excitement of the piggy train doesn't feel like that long ago.
I'm so glad I had Bandit even for just this short time. He was such a huge character and I'm privileged to have been part of his life.
I don't think any time is ever long enough but I do agree that losing young animals is devastating. With bandit, it all happened in just a week. Such a sudden decline after the second teeth trim but I have to be grateful that it wasn't a long drawn-out illness.

It was lovely to be involved in your piggy train, and I agree- it doesn’t feel like it was very long ago, but sooo much has happened since then.
Bandit had had the best life with you, and I am sure Jester, will be looking forward to meeting a new friend.
Sending you some virtual hugs.

My OH sends his condolences too. 🌈

Thank you both so much and I appreciate all that you did for us. Without your kindness, I wouldn't have been able to have my boys so I'll always be grateful to you and all involved in the piggy train.
Yes, I think Jester will be happy with a couple of girls so hopefully some will come along soon.
🥰
