One of my guinea pigs called Bramley always chews the grids of his cage - he didn't get on with another boar so now lives in a split cage which might be why he is chewing the grids because I think he is trying to get into the other cage or get the other guinea pigs attention (the other guinea pig has just been bonded with a younger boar).
I got Bramley out today while he was eating his veggies and I noticed that he was struggling to eat, the only thing he could really manage was his lettuce so I cut all the other vegetables up small so it was easier for him. I had a look at his teeth to see if they were making it difficult for him to eat and I noticed that one tooth was quite a lot longer than the other and when I looked more closely I saw that it was cracked at the top and it looks like it might break. All I can think is that it is down to him chewing the grids because he never stops. Some people use plexiglass to prevent them from chewing the grids however if we did this he wouldn't have very good interaction with the other guinea pigs and that would be a problem as he is a lone male. Any suggestions? Will I need to syringe feed him his pellets if the tooth breaks?
Thanks :)

Moving this to Health and Illness for you. Please chop his veg up small like you are doing for the time being. I would get him to a piggy savy vet just to check that tooth over. Cookie snapped a front tooth and we had to cut her veggies into strips and hand feed them her for a while as she couldn't pick the veg up.

Hope your piggie is feeling better soon.
I had to use a sheet of Perspex between my 2 boars as one wouldn't stop chewing the bars. (They fell out n had to be separated)

You shouldn't need to syringe feed if he chips or breaks one tooth. Only if it's to the point he cannot pick food up. If it's broken at the top it may be a good idea to have a vet look at them as there could be damage to the roots.

I'm not sure what to suggest to stop this happening. I have a regular bar chewer and a few months ago she snapped an incisor tooth. I checked her yesterday to find she had chipped another again and has wonky top teeth. I'm considering moving her to a non c&c home to try and reduce the chance of her chewing.

Thanks for the replies! I checked his teeth again today and I noticed that one of them had fallen out. He is managing to eat okay but I am chopping his veggies up small to make it easier for him. I will keep checking inside his mouth each day to make sure it doesn't become infected or anything like that x
