Hi everyone. I would love some advice please.

My piggy is being treated for a fungal infection. Scabby patch on his belly, tiny one near his eye. Treated with ivermectin (just had second dose) and am using kwench lotion on the areas. Clean pink skin now but he appears to be barbering. The hairless area is increasing and I thought it looked like heis chewing and pulling more out down his side and leg. I've just caught him doing it. Any ideas why and how i can stop this? It can't be nice for him it must be bothering him. The kwench lotion is supposed to sooth it so whyis he barbering?

I have a grumpy pig sitting on my lap just now so I can keep an eye on him. He's eating fine and seems ok otherwise.

Is there anyway you can put a bandage on the area to stop him getting to it?

I can't see that it would stay on for long. I'd have to wrap it right around him and he'd still get at it I'm sure by just pulling at the bandage.

Ive never heard of ivermectin being used to treat a fungal infection before. But hopefully someone more experienced will comment on that...

I think it was a just in case at the time the vet said and He said it would help fight any infection from the inside. I don't think it's mites as I've never seen it form a scab on a tummy and spread out like that.

Sometimes pigs barber when they have mites, so I think that maybe why the vet treated for mites as a precaution.

It seems like its annoying him more than it was. He's had his second dose of ivermectin and due the third in a week. I hate seeing him scratching and biting at it poor thing. I thought it would have started improving by now. I think the vet did say it can get worse before it gets better and may take up to 6 weeks to clear.

I have heard of people using tube bandages to stop piggies scratching, so that might help?

Ivermectin is solely for treating parasites such as mites - it will not treat any fungal infections.

I would recommend that you talk to your vet about using a more effective fungal treatment than Kwench.
