I was lucky enough to be able to home a new baby piggy who was about 5 weeks old. He was to be bonded with another male I had who is about 18 mouths old. They got on really well right from the word go, but after 2 days the little boar had trimmed all of Doggle lovely long hair (sheltie) to have a new skin head style.I was just wondering if this behaviour will continue or will he stop a some point?

It's impossible to say

I have 2 long-haired girls that never touch each other, but I had a little Peruvian sow that was once "scalped" overnight after introducing her to another sow :
In this case, if I kept the Peru trimmed really short, she showed no interest, but if it grew a bit longer she was straight at it ;D

I'm sure you are already doing this, but a good supply of nice, soft, fresh hay and dried grass might distract the little one

As Barbara mentioned, make sure they always have plenty of hay and other 'nibbles', but this doesn't alway stop the problem. And for some reason it's always long haired ones who suffer .... the ones which look the worst for it!

Yes, they eat it :
Horrible thought isn't it xx0 ut it doesn't seem to do them any harm. This sadly one of the reasons that people who breed and show long-hairs keep them apart. In case they nibble each others hair and ruin any chance they might have of winning a rosette.

Thanks, very weird! Is a long haired guinea the same as a Peruvian? I have 2 girls which I need to trim regularly but I don't know if they're Peruvian. I have very little idea about the breeds.

my girls seem worse in doing this but then again one evening jasper looked lovley with his long coat next morning well I wondered what had happend, it was Romeo( caught him in the act) who himself has a lovley long coat, he only did it the once, but lilac often gets a trim, its just something they do, as already suggested extra hay might help but nothing has stopped mine they do it when and if they want,

Yes peruvian are long haired piggies. They are lot's of diffrent types of long haired piggies. eg Shelties, coronet,Merino(curly) Alpaca (curly) etc.

Rocky is part-Peruvian. The others don't hassle him with his coat. I do keep it shorter though, otherwise he gets such wet bloomers and I couldn't see his dear litle face.
