I have tried all the usual hays, oxbox, alfalfa king, hay for pets, timothy.co.uk, dust free hay, hay experts etc, but hit a wall with regards to crunchies bladder issues.
I feed hay in a litter tray (cheaper hay) which gets munched and pee'd on. I then feed expensive hays in racks. My 2 young sows are on SUPERHAY (DUST EXTRACTED HAY RE-BALED IN A PLASTIC BAG) l HAY l G J W TITMUSS LT in their tray (which is only £6.50 for a massive bale) and is nice and green. I then feed a second cut (cut can vary on season) expensive timothy hay in a rack (alfalfa king), and oxbow western timothy in another rack (seems like a third cut hay to me.)
Crunchie cant have meadow hay due to strict diet for severe bladder problems, so she has the same oxbow timothy and alfalfa king timothy in racks like my youngsters, but been on a mission to find a decent but inexpensive timothy hay for her big tray. Currently using a bag of p@h timothy for the tray but i detest it- yellow and really poor quality. The only reason i picked them it in the meantime as its a hard first cut hay and crunchie it eating it- so good for her teeth. Been browsing the web for hours today and came across a country feed site, that work from glasgow and source their hay from stirling (iv never heard of the place.) they are aimed at horse supplies, but have a small animal section where they sell a half bale..
12.5kg.. Timothy hay.. First cut.. Quite green.. For £4.20!
Had to email them to double check it isnt a typo! I pay £40 for the alfalfa king timothy and £70 for the oxbow western timothy. I'm a firm believer of you only get what u pay for, but this hay is for a litter tray, will be eaten but pee'd on too, looks decent, its 100% timothy and its the right cut I'm looking for! Will be ordering some and let you know what crunchie and fudge (she'll eat anything!) think of it! I hope they like it, means more money towards the epic vet bills I'm having lately!
