I rang a lady that was advertising new home needed for 2 female pigglies ...

It seemed to take forever to get there and the fuel seemed to have mysteriously plummeted! I pulled up outside a neat well kept corner semi and was taken round the back - I was shocked to see 2 little pigglies huddled in the corner of what looked like a rough timber home made hutch - it was only about 2ft x 1ft and an inch thick in droppings, there was no trace of hay no hiding places or shelter just a dish piled high with muesli - their only entertainment was to look out at the lush overgrown garden that they couldn't get to :( The lady grabbed one and held it up - it was a male! So it turned out was the other one, i really didn't want any more males but i couldn't bear to leave them there - they had been her kids pets and had started off in the bedroom, the novelty wore off the kids didn't bother with them and she didn't like them " they're like rats." she'd said. Oh well at least she was honest about it and had eventually done the decent thing and advertised for a new home for them!
All the way home i could smell them, hardly surprisingly - they stunk!
Poor things as soon as we got through the door i was running their bath!
It was then, in the tub, that i noticed that they hadn't really got much hair apart from their "Yeti boot" legs!
After regular baths in lice n easy and being treated to a course of Ivermectin each their fur is now growing nicely.
They were terrified of being handled and used to freeze into a kind of starfish position when i picked them up & poor Dodger used to literally scream continuosly :(
Although they're still a bit skittish they've calmed down a lot and i'm sure in time they are going to be 2 very friendly little characters. Unfortunately from day one really they have squabbled and after continuous fighting i felt i had to seperate them- i had to divide the hutch into seperate floors, but they still chat to each other and go out in side by side runs (weather permitting)

I have to be honest and admit that i was going to advertise them for a small charge to at least recouperate the £20 fuel that i'd burnt off fetching them - but i have grown so attached to them that i keep putting it off - i'd never intended to keep them but i am so worried that they might end up in the same situation that i took them from, so if anyone reading knows of someone that could give them a good permanent loving home please let me know - this is far more important than a few quid & i really would like to be able to keep in touch with how they are doing- so a forum member would be great. As they were probably clumsily handled by their previous child owners, i don't think they would be suitable for children so an adult home would be best. They are used to my cat and dog strolling about and peering at them so aren't afraid of other animals.

These are lovely boys and I'm so pleased you could take them out of a horrible situation. Hope you find a great home for them. :)

They're so handsome and well done for saving them from a bad life. :)

Poor little boys you know, i've never got why parents allow their children to have pets they themselves wouldnt want, because if it goes wrong, as in this case the poor animals suffer. They're both so handsome! I really hope if you can't keep them a loving home can be found. I'd have them without a doubt if i could.

Yes well done for taking them in, I hope they find wonderful forever homes.

Thanks everyone ~ I'm sure you'd have all done the same if you'd been in my place and seen how they were living!
I feel really bad about looking for a new home for them, kind of like i'm letting them down but my other guineas are in c&cs in my lounge and these are outside in the hutch - i keep looking out of the window at them and thinking that someone with less guineas could give them so much more individual time than i do - but i still feel a bit sad about them going :(
Respect to all of you that are running rescues - the taking them in was easy for me - parting with them is a bit more difficult than i thought it would be 8...

I have Basil booked in for his neuter op on Monday and hopefully Dillon will follow in the near future [ but he's had a few health probs so i'm delaying his op til i'm sure he's in good health ] possibly 2 more girlies coming my way so i could end up with three cozy trio's in my lounge!

I hate that poor Barney & Dodger are split up in the hutch and hope that maybe with careful planning and no female scents around that they maybe they'd be able to share their home again in the future? If not that they could be side by side rather than 1 up and 1 down - or even neutered and married off happily ever after :(|).

They are two great looking boys and a real credit to your good care! I hope that you can find them that extra special home.

With a little time to heal and settle i dont see why they could not be re-introduced with each other and be a happy pair of boys. I had a pair of boys live apart for a year to be happily reintroduced!

What beautiful boys they've turned into and a credit to your good care :)

I hope they find a good home where you can keep your eye on their progress x

I'm so glad you said that! I had built a run just for them at the top of the garden in a nice sheltered position and had planned to move the hutch up there but when i saw them wrapped around each other rolling around the run and had to clean up the wounds afterwards i kind of abandoned the idea and got very down about having to keep them apart and alone - they call to each other if one goes out without the other but still chatter teeth quite violently if i put them in the run together - but in side by side runs they seem ok.
I forgot to say that they are now around 9 months old.

They look adorable boys, such a shame they have fallen out. Hope they can be reintroduced and that you find them a good home.

I think when they've had such a traumatic start, with lots of moving about and stress it can easily strain the relationship between them. If i were you i'd give them as much time as possible next each other in runs, very often they will chatter to one another through the bars which eventually does down. Of course I'm not suggesting you try and force freidnship upon them but i dont think it will hurt to give it one last go after a good long rest up.

I would consider having them for my girls, but don't know if I could have both and it would be a shame to split them up :(. If you don't find anyone else to take them let me know and I'll see what I could do :).

Very handsome boys, I'm glad they've both found a loving caring home. I wish them both well in recovering and coming out of their shells, they look like they could be lovely piggies. :)

They are absolutely gorgeous, well done you for taking them out of their old situation. I hope they find nice new homes soon. :)
