I'm really sorry things are going that quickly... Hope you two will have lots of good moments together till the time comes.
Sending you lots of hugs x

Just a little update on how Barney B is doing with his hip tumour. I haven't been on forum a lot as have 3 poorly pigs and work is also mad.
Sadly Barney B is nearing the end now - he has noticeably gone down hill in the last few days and losing mobility very quickly. He is struggling to get around his cage now - he tends to go in a circle around the affected back leg. But he is still cheerful so I am watching him very closely and making sure he has syringe feeds to top up fluids and energy. I am finding it hard even though I knew this was coming! I will make the decision as soon as he looks to be struggling and unhappy - but he is so much his usual self at the moment that I am letting him enjoy some final summer sunshine when he can.

You can probably see that the back right hip looks odd now?
But here he is in the sunshine still grazing as normal.

Lovely photos of BB in the sunshine. It's nice to hear he is still cheerful and eating that's always reassuring with a poorly pig.
It is always difficult when the vet gives you bad news about your guinea pig with the stress it causes, it is something I will never really be able to accept. Having said that I always feel privileged to gain an animals trust. Guinea Pigs seem to pack a lot into their lives no matter how long they live.

He is really living his life Laura. Sorry it is such a sad time for you. I hope Theo and Fred are doing ok. X

Yes he is not giving up and I hope he is having some good moments in these final weeks.
Fred is mending but not fully better. Theo is still a flipping frustrating mystery! Better start my top up feed for him now...

Very sadly, our lovely Barney Bubbles deteriorated over the weekend especially in mobility and gut wise and we helped him over the bridge today. His spirit never dimmed and he was cheerful to the end. Which made the whole thing harder but his body was failing him. He had a last graze in the sunshine this afternoon ( in one place as he couldn't move much) and then a little nap on my knee. He was totally relaxed at the vet as we have been so many times. He went to sleep in my arms, eating mint leaves. Sleep well BB.

I so hope he's going to be fine, he looks as there is a lot of go left in him yet. Tia & gang are rooting for him too.

Oh my goodness I am so sorry for your loss, must have been so hard saying goodbye to such a beautiful, special little pig. Just read this thread now, made me cry!:(
Poor little BB, he was such a little fighter!:box:
May he popcorn free on the rainbow bridge forever.

I'm really sorry... it was a lovely way of saying goodbye to him, and although a really tough decision you did what was best for him. Sending you lots of hugs.

Popcorn free BB x

So sorry for your loss. You did everything you could. (((Hugs))) Maybe him and Alby will bump into each other and cause mischief together at the rainbow bridge .

:( so sorry you've had to say goodbye. Sleep tight BB, cheerful, loved and cherished til the end xx

Hi, yes I am sure they are at the Metacam Bar causing chaos. Barney Bubbles will be tracking down his best mate Sudoku as well.
Missing him massively today now the adrenaline from yesterday's decisions and vet stuff is over.

Sleep tight little man, you'll be sadly missed.

Huge hugs, it's so difficult when they keep fighting on but you did the right thing. x
Thanks Jo - yes I kept waiting for him to give me a sign or look exhausted but he didn't. One of the vet nurses talked it through with me and was great - she knew Barney and how much he actually liked being syringe fed (weird but true - and only in his later years!) and probably he would have let me feed him and look after him until his gut packed in but I didn't want that to happen. Each one puts you through the mill in a different way don't they? But had some super times with him. x

So sorry that you have had to say goodbye to Barney B. I had the honour of him staying at my home while l boar dated him to Fred earlier this year. He looked a frail little man but appearances are deceptive, he was a very tough little piggy. He had been through a lot in his life but he was a lovely gentle boy and appeared grateful for all the love and care that he had from @lauraboara and her family. Bye bye Barney B, we will not forget you. Hope you are ok Laura xx

Thanks B. Fred is Ok - eating well still! It makes me a bit sad when you call him frail but I suppose when Barney B came to stay with you after Sudoku had died he wasn't that great but he rallied with a regular in take of Fred's poohs! The vet knew him as the piggie of nine lives and he did make the most of them.

Sorry, l didn't want to make you feel sad. I remember feeling anxious that strapping Fred would squash BB, but as l say he was tougher than he looked! X
