Hello efurryone,

It's us piggies from Hutch A Good Life here. Now you may know whee recently had a new arrival, Baby Basil. Like any bubby Basil loves to hear a good story. So whee are launching our latest competition especially for him. Basil Bedtime Story!

Based on the fictional land of Cavyaira featured in Mummy's story for us ( see here for Captured In Cavyaira http://hutchagoodlife.wordpress.com/piggy-stories/captured-in-cavyaira/ ) Whee would like hoomans, piggies and other furries to write a short story about their adventure in Cavyaira (or an ajoining land for doggies and kitties Pawsford!) Whether it's a night out at The Pig Inn or a mysterious adventure in the mountains whee need bedtime stories for Basil. Adventure, romance, or spooky! Whee aren't fussy!

The story can be no more than 1000 words and you must include a photo of the pet this adventure is based on.

The winner will have their story featured on the blog as well as illustrations created by our little hooman. If you would like to see what these pigtures/drawings will look like here is the cast of Captured In Cavyaira:

Angel the parrot lived high in the tree's of a tropical forest but decided she was lonely and looked for a new home. She came to Pawsford where all different kinds of dogs lived and thought 'this looks wonderful'. She circled above the village and squawked a loud welcome SQUAWKKKKK!
the dogs covered their ears...'Go away they yelled, you're too noisey to live here'! So with a heavy heart Angel flew off.
She soon came to another village called catatopia with many different cats, it looked so friendly and welcoming. Angel swooped down and squawked a friendly greeting SQAUWKKKKK! the cats all jumped in the air and hissed....GO AWAY they yelled, you don't belong here'!
once angain Angel flew away.
she then came to another village called Cavyaira, it looks like so much fun and everyone looked jolly, surely this must be my new home Angel thought.
she circled down and squawked a friendly greeting SQUAWKKKKKKKK
the resident guinea pigs ran wheeking for their lives! 'we cant have you here' they cried, 'you're too scary and loud'
Angel was devestated and flew to a nearby forest to rest. She was just deciding what to do when she saw a peregrine falcon zooming towards cavyaira and its unsuspecting inhabitants! 'No thought Angel'
she flew through the sky screaming with all here might to alert the guinea pigs, they ran into their tunnels and hid, while Angel chased off the peregrine.
One by one the guinea pigs came out, 'Thankyou Angel' they cried 'you saved us' and king nibbled declred that Angel could live with them forever (providing she was quiet at nap time).

The End

The golden light painted the deep hidden valleys of Cavyaira a rich emerald which sparkled under the warm morning sun, the song birds danced and sang in this welcomed light and the trees which shadowed the brook, sleepily shook their delicate leaves and sent them fluttering, following the brooks weaving path into the vast open land which laid beyond the valley.

There on the far north edge of valley where the water fought fiercely with rocks and bounded feverishly down the rocky hillside sat two small figures , barely noticeable to the untrained eye but there they were, necks outstretched noses picking up every scent to picture the rolling waves of greenery that lay below.

Their skin battle scared, and weatherworn told a story which started long ago, of a journey which took them beyond the garden fence.

Part 1[/*]

It was late summer when the leaves started to burn deep umber, and the air nipped softly on the hair of the creatures which were quietly grazing in a garden.

A small stocky creature sat unfazed in the middle of the lawn, his little legs overshadowed by his well fed gut and his mouth moved quickly but quietly through the lush grass that laid before him. From afar the humans would just assume that the creature was filling up on a tasty lunch, and smile fondly but those who can, will see more than just that.

“- he’s always been like that since we were little, too curious for good I’d say. Where there’s humans there’s food.” Aranni nodded, pleased at his answer.

A smaller creature, with long ivory hair that touched the tips of the grass ,pressed his colour splashed face heavily to the bars of his run, leaning as close as he could for it was quite difficult to understand another cia (guinea pig) when he was eating.

“ I guess he’s got a point though, Aranni, it does curious me too. It’s nice to get out now and then to see what’s surrounding your heaarm (home), sometimes you’re lucky and come across a nice fresh dandelion patch.” Rannoch replied back, his body now resting against the bars.

“Well of course, it’s always good to get a knowledge of your surroundings, the human lets us out often enough for a good snout around. But that’s not what he’s wanting Rannoch, talking about some trek beyond the walled fence. I say he’s been listening to the blackbirds too long, makes you go a little funny it does.”

The short white and brown cia hopped towards a sunny spot in the run, and nested down in a sun warmed patch of chewed grass sighing heavily. He was wise for his age and had passed two winters without losing any condition, in some ways he was pleased that he was not his fellow cia who was homed with a young sow who was still quite skittish and nervous of the crows that flew above, and to Aranni, sows were a lot of work.

The stoutly guinea pig looked back to where his heaarm companion, a lean creature with unruly hair, was sat on his two hind legs stretching up towards the grid sky. A strange sight to see, but one he had become accustomed to, his companions strange curiosity and longing to venture out of the safety of the heaarm was no longer odd to him but the norm. As the lean cia came back onto all fours he suddenly threw himself upwards his body twisting and twirling, just as if he was a young boar new to the world and the wonderful offerings it brings.

Aranni chuckled to himself, surprised and a little perplexed by his companion who bounded over with a look of excited urgency.

“Talking to the blackbirds again have we Thainaril? What have they told you this time?” Aranni asked nose touching his beloved brother.

“No, no. Not talking, and it’s Harvey, well thats what the girl says I am, the sky is clear Aranni. It’s clear and wide, and theres no danger I tell you. No danger at all, we need to leave now if we will ever find that place our mothers spoke of, Cavyaira.”

“Oh Thainaril – Harr- vey- thats just a place made up by the sows which tell their little ‘uns about it so they sleep at night when the winds howling, and fierce or when they have to go to that bright, loud place that young ‘uns go too. We’re safe here, not out there with clawed creatures and chaachocha’s (trains).”

Aranni, content with his answer shifted his weight and went back to grazing; which was soon stopped by sound of struggling feet, and he was greeted by the sight of his companions backside squeezing through the small gap under the wooden run, his back legs pushing against the soil.

The long haired cia in the adjoining run, started digging at the soft top soil as soon as Thainaril was free and on the otherside of the wire run, his sow pacing nervously behind him.

“Goodness me, what’s up with you all today? Something in the grass?” Aranni stood up perplexed by the frantic digging surrounding him, and his fellow cia all wanting to slip under the wire, to the place which their mothers spoke of.

“Are you coming too? We’re going to go beyond the fence, to where the grass grows tall and golden and the land towers above you, I know its out there. I just know.” Thainaril looked up to the cloudless sky, his voice full of strange knowledge and understanding if he had been there before.

“Well look, I’m not going to sit in here fretting whether some clawed creature decided to make a meal out of you while you were dithering at how blooming bright the sky is or not. So yes I'm coming but I ain’t going to fit through that hole.”

When the sun had climbed to the centre of the sky, and all seemed quiet, a gap in the tired fence at the bottom of the garden showed a line of four small creatures heading out on their adventure to Cavyaira.

(I'm terrible with short stories, so this is the start of an adventure to Cavyaira, led by Harvey, his dubious but faithful brother Artie, his fellow keen adventurer Percy-Roo and the beautiful but nervous Tabby) Hope this is okay :S
