I picked up my gourgous guinea "just for baors" today & plan on bathing my monkeys tonight!

I just wanted some advice on how to make it quicker for them as I know they don't like it. I want to do them both together so they may bond a bit more but I can't carry them both at once as can't carry them with one hand. Also what do you bathe them in? would washing up bowl work and do you add water once guineas are in? I know the water should only be upto their legs and you need to dry afterwards but what else do I need to know ?

Thanks :)

I do mine in the sink - one at a time (they're slippery when wet!). I get the tap the right temp and run a little water in the bowl, then once they're wet add the shampoo (I think it comes with instructions), the important thing is to rinse really thoroughly so no lather remains. I have a towel waiting on the loo, squeeze the worst of the water out of the pig, then pop it in the bath to run around while I do the next one.

I blow dry mine, on warm not hot.

someone once said that they like the water fairly hot so it does not make them cold, not sure if this is true.

I use two washing up bowls one for the shampoo part one for rinsing part. Then pop them in a towel to hand dry. I also make a tiny cage on floor so they can all sit together with some veggies while their friends are getting washed

Be warned, they are extremely fast and slippery! Out of 8, my only boar is the only one who doesnt mind bath time.

The others will do anything to get away. I have had many a nip from a soggy piggie!

thanks everyone for the advice bath time is over now & i'm surprised how well it went (for me that is they hated every minute :)) ) I feel a bit guilty as it seemed to upset them a lot did george first then toweled him and put him in the bath for somewhere to put him and he sat sit for the whole time i did tiger poor mite!

Then I did tiger and he kept trying to climb out of the sink glad i didn't do them together!

All is well that ends well and they are both now feeling sorry for themselves in their play pen! they both look lovely now and have really fluffy fur (even tigers feels silky and his was rough and course before... wierd.

There's a video on YouTube of someone giving advice on bathing a piggie - you could adapt it to suit you and your piggie.

I personally have mine in a bowl and then pour water over them using a cup or jug. Mine like to sit on my hand/arm so that they are not totally immersed in the water as they don't like it. It does make bathing them a little harder but at least they're a bit happier.

no way would my two behave like that! How often should you bath them? I havent done mine yet cos they dont trust me yet and i want to build up our relationship before i plunge them into a bath!

yikes i can't believe that video I could barely wash / rinse their tummys never mind stand them up to do it! ha ha that piggie don't really like it you can tell she just thinks she doesn't have a choice! bless x)

I only bathe mine between every 4 - 6 months - only when I think they really do with it. I only have sows but boars need bathed a little bit more often due to their grease glands.
