I had read somewhere that you could use baby shampoo as an alternative to small animal/ guinea pig shampoo. I wanted to check on here to see if this would be a good idea as I’ve never bathed them before. Any ideas?

There is no need to bathe pigs unless for
Medical reasons. It is really not fun for them or for you. It scares most piggies.
If you need to bath for medical reasons then follow any directions vet gives you on medicated shampoo.
Otherwise gorgeous Guineas do a good range of shampoo if you need to bath for a good reason

You can you a baby shampoo that has no additives in if you can’t get gorgeous Guineas to answer you question

There has been a major shift in recent years re. bathing. Please only bathe if absolutely necessary. Often a simple 'bum bath' with baby warm water for any affected areas is sufficient and will not upset the ph of the skin, which differs from that of humans.
Too regular bathing can cause problems because you strip the skin and hair of the grease that is spread around as a protective layer when piggies do their own 'piggy washes' several times a day.
Bathing (including cleaning grease glands)

Ah I know that they shouldn’t have baths regularly. I just thought they were a bit smelly. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they could be bathed if they smell but not often of course. My mistake. Anyhow thank youu

There's lots of information on bathing etc in the Daily Care Guides, go to Guinea Pig Guides section in the green bar at top of screen.

So with the bum bathing... how do I do that?

Please click on the green link to our bathing guide at the end of my last post. All the information is in there, with illustrations. ;)
