hi not been on in a while! had my piggies since late last year and they have settled in really well, well I think so anyway! Alan and pebbles could do with a spring wash :) ive read the bathing thread and it does say you can use human shampoo, is this right?

thanx

Using human shampoos are not advised as they'll likely leave their skin itchy and sore because they're made for our hair, not animal fur.

It's best to let them paddle in shallow warm water that comes up to their belly's, so you can wash their paws, bottoms and belly's. Shampoos aren't necessary unless they are filthy and very smelly, which pigs rarely get unless living in squalor of course, but I highly doubt yours are.

I use shampoo by gorgeous guineas. They are specially made and perfect for guinea pigs.

I have never bathed my current pigs, I find that unless they are absolutely in dire need of a bath - i.e. if they are filthy, covered in faeces etc. (when initially rescued for example) then it is best not to mess with their delicate skin and fur. I only bathed two of mine once to rid them of lice, but that treatment didn't work and just sressed them out beyond belief! Bathing them to simply freshen them up is not necessary and realistically is just a human indulgence. :)
