I have read the thread in the guinea pig care reference section of the forum, and i am just wanting t double double check that it is safe to use washing up liquid to clean the grease gland? (my eyes popped out of my head when i read that!) I would be using standard Fairy washing up liquid if i were to do this, unless you would recommend a different one?

Also is it safe to use Johnsons baby shampoo to wash them? I have bathed them before using this and had no problems however now i am a member of a forum i trust i would rather double check that this is ok before doing it again.

We have had toffee for just over 3 weeks now and bought her from P@H as a baby, not sure how old she was exactly but she and the others in the pen were quite small so i would guess she was about 6 - 8 weeks old when we got her, would it be ok to bath her or should i wait until she is a bit older?

Sorry for all of the questions.

hello yes washing up liquid for grease glands :) i would say no to baby shampoo but others may say yes, gorgeous guines is a good place to get piggy shampoo from. i would also wait to bath the little one til she is at least 4 months.

also make sure they are properley dried in this weather and don't bath outdoors piggies til the summer.

do they actually need bathing?

They are indoor piggies any way. They haven't been done for about 5 months and all three seem to have quite greasy grease glands and my white lilly has quite a dirty tummy bless him. I always make sure they are completely dry before i set them free, i am an over precaucious piggy mummy lol.

I thought it would be best to wait till Toffee is a bit older that's why i asked.

Thanks for the info.

sorry that may of come across harsh i didnt mean for it to. you could try wiping them with a warm damp flannel?
