I will be bathing my piggies in the next 4 weeks as there are going to kennals while i go on hoilday

ive never bathed a piggie bofore
i will be doing it in the kichen sink
i have some shampoo for them too

how to you go about bathing a piggie

Firstly what shampoo do you have? I have, love and recommended Gorgeous Guineas shampoo, it's fantastic!

Anyway, I bath mine in the bathroom sink so the shower is near by. I fill the sink with about 2cm of water...I wet all of their fur then put a line of shampoo down their back. I rub it in for a while and sometimes leave it on a bit, but that's mainly if they're terrified and they need a hug :P Then I pull the plug out of the sink with them still in it for the water to drain away. I get the shower head or a small cup of water (at a nice temperature) and start rinsing them. Once they're completely rinsed I end up sitting on the toilet (lid down of course haha 98)) with them on my lap cuddled in a towel. I dry them for a bit in the towel until they're as dry as they can be then I take them into my bedroom/kitchen/living room and use the hairdryer until they're completely (or almost completely) dry...sometimes if they're not that dry this involves more towel drying too. Then there you go, a nice clean sparkling nice smelling guinea pig! :P No idea if other people do it like this but it's worked great for me twice :) I bathed them both seperately too, one on their own is hard enough. ;)

I put a shallow tub in the bath with a couple of inches of warm water, but also put water into the bath too so that I can use the clean water for rinsing , so far all my piggies are ok with bath time & Marvin actually likes swimming which I didn't know they did. After they're well rinsed I take them out & wrap them in a towel to get rid of most of the water , then re wrap them in a fresh towel & towel dry & finish of with the hairdryer on a gentle setting.

i thought hairdryers were a big no no....

here are our eldest two after bath, notice the "we are not amused" look on their faces ::)

I do the same. :) They don't particularly like it (or me after I've bathed them) but they are very tolerant! One piggie likes to try and climb out of the small tub so I put her in the bath while I shampoo the other piggie. It's helpful to have a waiting pair of arms with towel if doing more than one piggie; saves one piggie from getting cold while waiting her turn to be dried. Hmm, I think they must be due for a bath again soon.

Gorgeous guineas stuff really is the best stuff to use as its full of natural products and no detergants so safe for piggies delicate skin.
There are different types to suit different hair types but my favourites are the 4oils shampoo and conditioner or posh and go for long hairs, both chrissie and i now stock trial sizes too.

Also..
Mine dont like the hairdryer either, they go barmy but the high absorbancy towels by snugglesafe are really good and they dry quickly too.
Alot of my show customers who have got them from me swear by them, but you can get them from any snugglesafe stockist not just me and some pet shops sell them too. They are really good and worth their money! I dont think pets at home do them? not sure but garden centre pet shops normally sell them for dogs.

Mine don't like the dryer at first but get used to it. I stand them on a Microfibre towel to absorb water from their tums and use ordinary ones for drying. My Micro fibre towels came from the Pound Shop and 99p Store (sorry Sally, but needs must ::) ) They are nowhere as big as Snugglesafe ones though- you get what you pay for :) My 'ordinary' towels are from Primark :)

Get piggy thoroughly wet, I bath mine under a shower tap, that way I can hold them securely and the water runs off their body- do the way that you find best :)put a strip of shampoo down the back and massage in, leave shampoo on for a few minutes then rinse off thoroughly, when you think all the shampoo is off rinse again :) there's always some lurking somewhere ;D ... and repeat! Get Guinea thoroughly dry before returning him to the hutch.

I use Gorgeous Guineas shampoos on my rescue guineas and my own- Fab stuff and smells nice too esp Posh N' Go :) (Not just for the Hairies ;) )
