Bathing

Hi there, I wonder if anyone could help me, I had one of my guinea pigs neutered on friday and although he seems to be healing well I'm not sure if I should be bathing his bottom end to keep it clean and free of infection. His fleeces are changed daily but he still whiffs a bit. I would love to give him a relaxing bath.

I think I would leave it until the wound is fully healed. Water is often makes it easier for bacteria to get into places that it shouldn't. If the wound is clean, I wouldn't worry about his smell until you are sure the wound has healed. If the wound is not clean, I would call the vets and clean gently with some saline solution. Hope this helps! I had my boy neutered a few years ago and it was the best decision I ever made! He got two girlfriends a few weeks later and he became a much happier piggie.

Please don't give him a full bath yet until the operation scars have fully knitted about 10-14 days after the operation. What you can do is give him a little gentle wash with a soft rag around the groin area with plain hand-warm water.

Thanks for your help everyone, I'll leave it till he is all better and just keep checking on his wound. Can't wait till he is all better so we can find him a girlfriend. The other boys definitely don't like him much so he is housed alone at the moment
