How often do you bath your Piggies?

I just bought some sample pots of shampoo from Gorgeous Guineas.

I have 3 sows and 1 boar...is it ok to bath them together or shall I do them one by one?

I have no idea how they are going to react but I can bet one of my little sows, Pip, will hate it! She's a natural fidget and likes to do her own thing!

if they are long haired, like mine i bath them every 4-6 weeks. or longer if they are not grubby.

Short hairs I bathed rarely, as they dont get as dirty! its whatever you feel best really, i like bathing them and making them smell all nice! i give them their hair cuts after their bath too!

You will need more hands than you think - so one by one I'd say!

I do mine in the sink, check the water temp on your wrist like you would with a baby - they hate it too cold! Have lots of towels ready, dry them thoroughly and don't put them back in their cages until they're really dry. I use a hair-dryer on mine, but not too hot!

And - we expect before and after pics! :))

Thanks for this question. I have just received some shampoo from gorgeous guineas, and am about to start bathing. I know I will have to keep my boys separate from the girls, but look forward to the replies to this thread for some advice. x

Pip is long haired and I can just imagine what she would look like after being blow-dried! Haha! Definately camera at the ready!

Do they seem to mind being bathed?

I use a old washing up bowl adn fill it with about 1 nich of warm water, again test it like you would for a baby. i use a cup to pour the water over the piggy. I found that keep ing their bottom feet if on your own only in the water is easier and hold them round their body when washing. If you have two people, get someone to hold their bum just above the water as then they are fine and dont get scared of the water! make sure your arms are protected, they will jump up them ( mine climb onto my head!lol) so you may suffer a few scratches!

i dry with a hairdryer on a warm setting and keep it moving and at a distance so it doesnt burn their skin or get too hot for them

dont get bubbles in their face, nose or ears, do this carefully - dont pour water over their face, just dab the water around their face.

Yes, some of them take to it more easily than others! :))

My long-haired pigs get regular baths but some of my short-haired ones have never had one.... I only do it if they need it.

Be very careful as it's easy for them to panic and struggle and get dropped - keep one hand round them at all times just in case, it's good to have a helper too!

one of mine hates baths so much he will ignore me for the rest of the day when i give him one
