How do I bathe my piggy? ? I want to do it right so I don't upset my little boar.

we did both of our girls recently at the same time in the bath! lots of fun! prepare to be splashed! we put about an inch of elbow tested warm water in the botton of the bath ( or the sink ) and stood them in it. pets at home do shampoo. Remember to have lots of towels and and a cup for rinsing them.

Al pig loves to lull us into a false sense of security by sitting really still for ages and then all of a sudden launching herelf as high as she can jump! prepare to be wet and soggy and crying with laughter. poorl little mites dont seem to enjoy it much! :)

I prefer not to let my piggies get stressed, each of my piggies I bath differently. Two of mine love baths and sit really still. I put a towel in the bottom of the bath with no water and have a sink full of warm water and a jug. I wet them gently, making sure no water goes in eyes/ears and I always use on of gorgeous guineas shampoos.
My other piggies hate baths and get stressed so my partner sits in the bath with his t shirt/boxers on and cuddles them while I do the washing. They feel secure and dont mind it now.

I do mine in the bathroom sink. I put about 1-2" of warm water in then I put the piggy in slowly. I always have it so their front paws are on my hand - I find they feel more comfortable like that. I wet them, put the shampoo down their back then rub it in..I then take them out of the water and leave the shampoo to soak in for a minute or two. Then I put the piggy back into the sink and wash out the shampoo - sometimes I use the shower, sometimes I have a jug of warm water on the side to help.

Use Gorgeous Guineas shampoo - it is great and 100% safe and will leave the piggies smelling lovely :)

Not sure if other people bath them like this but it works for us :)

ooh that all sounds alot better than our technique! where do you get the gorgeous guinea's shampoo?
How often do people bath their piggies? we've had ours for 18 months and only bathed them twice so far.

Thats amazing! Thanks for the link, i was'nt even aware that you could get special shampoo just for piggies! my girls will be pleased! and smelling fab! Big thank you :D

Is it actually necessary to bathe pigs at all?

I've never done it at all, I have two short-haired boars. They would hate it, is it really necessary to stress them out with this?

I put the plug in my bath then fill the sink up with water. Put piggun in the bath then use a jug and get him wet that way! Less stressful although they'll run away but I've found this works better for my lot. :)

I haven't bathed my girls as they are smooths and sunshine has only had a dip as he is an Aby and doesn't get that dirty. I'd say bath if you think they are dirty but no more than 3 months between. I have probs with my Sheltie he is a messy boy, but he had a trim and is much better now!

Al pig is a smooth and wen is an aby i only bathed ours the first time because Al started peeing at Wen so she started to smell quite icky! I bathed them the second time because a website said that if we bathed them together it may help them bond ( they are currently hating each other ). It didnt work ,they were fighting again 5 minutes later! :(

All my pigs came with really greasy coats, and bathing them has given them healthy shiny coats. Mine don't get stressed by it at all. It's my bonding time with my pigs when I bath them and dry them.

I'm building up to giving my 2 a bath soon - I've had them about 3 months so am thinking one is due soon so I'll be bearing all these tips in mind. However, I have spoken to a few people who have owned piggies and they have never bathed them. :)

Personally, unless your pig has some kind of health issue which requires it to be bathed i don't think its necessary to do so. My pigs have only been bathed once in 2 - 3 years. I certainly don't think it harms your piggy not too have a bath! :)

my boys arent keen on baths but they are usually still well behaved. they just love to snuggle in a towel afterwards :smitten:

my piggies like to lay in their own pee, especially in the pigloo, as they not only use it as a bed but as a loo too (ironic considering the name) so i have to bath them now and again.

also i find bobs hair gets very greasy after a while, does anyone elses piggy do this, as no-ones mentioned it?

Lennies hair gets very greasy too, I thought it was due to the fungal infection he had as this can make their fur greasy, but he is all better from that now and he generally looks a bit tatty so I do bath him a bit more often.
Might be worth checking Bob for fungal?

I thought the greasiness was just the grease gland on the rump going into overdrive ? A tiny dab of Swarfega left on for a couple of minutes then thoroughly rinsed off will sort it out if it is.
