Hi,

I’ve been reading mixed things about giving Guinea pigs baths.

Some resources online say they’ll never need one as long as they are healthy and clean themselves, but others says to do a bath once or twice a year.

What’s the best thing to do?

I have a geriatric Guinea pig (5) who gets very stressed out by baths and is prone to respiratory infections. Baths or no baths? If baths, what frequency?

Thanks!

The recommendations is that you only bathe them if there is a medical need to do so -
ie arthritis prevents them from being able to move properly so they need a bum bath to prevent urine scald, or needing a bath at the end of ringworm treatment for example.

They do not need to be routinely bathed - it isn’t good for their skin and a healthy piggy should be keeping themselves clean.
