My Gizmo had a bit of an upset tummy after too much luxurious dining and basically now he stinks :-( so I think it's time all three had a spring clean. The two boys had a stressful first bath months ago and I never attempted it with poppy cause she was pregnant. Does anyone have any hints tips secrets advice do's don'ts on bathing? Best products to use? Best way to dry? How to keep it relaxed for all parties? Anything really, thanks :-)

The how to link was great help thank you :-)
and I've just ordered some lovely stuff from gorgeous guineas, hurry on mister post man! Haha. Has anyone any idea if the gorgguineas shampoos are degreasers too or do you have to buy a degreaser seperately?

I found that bathing them in the bath or sink was a real stress for them and me! So I bought a baby bath and they don't seem to kick up such a stink now.
Although they do tend to just hop out when they really can't take anymore.

Not very useful, but it helped make bath time way easier on my end.

Hope it's somewhat helpful :)

If you mean the grease gland then the best thing I found is Swarfega, its the stuff mechanics use to wash the oil off their hands you can buy it cheap in Halfords. Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas also recommended it to me.
If your talking about greasy guineas in general then the shampoos should sort that out :)
One tip with the Swarfega is to put a small bit onto dry hair first massage it slightly then add a bit of water to get a lather. Rinse off then shampoo as normal.

Great advice, keep it coming :p
The baby bath is a handy idea alright! and you could pick one up cheap enough!

Yeah just with regards to the grease gland. I'd never heard of it before yesterday :S
I know dogs have an anal gland, is it something like this or am I way off?
Swarfega it is so, thanks :)

Yeah the grease gland is located near their bum where their tail would be if they had one :) Its more obvious in boars than sows.

I did my girls for the first time a few weeks back, and I was expecting them to kick up a real stink! However, it wasn't too stressful.

I used 2 washing up bowls in the bath - one with an inch or 2 of water, and the other one full. I placed each pig in the shallow one, and used that to wet them and then shampoo'd them.

I then took them out of the bowl, and put them in the bath, and filled a jug from the full bowl and used this to rinse off the shampoo. In the end, I decided to try the shower attachment, and they were fine with that, although I've heard some pigs don't like it.

So next time, I will probably just plop them straight into the bath and use the shower, but try different methods and see what works for you and your pigs.

Yup. They're normally between £5-7 if you look around enough places.
I bought mine in Boots for £7.
I bet Asda sell them cheap...Asda are great for bargains!

I hope Bath time goes well for you. It's bath time on our end tomorrow :))
Great fun!
So I hope that whatever you try, it goes smoothly this time :))

Very useful post thank you as hoping to get my 2 boars next week and no doubt they will need a bath now and then being boys and all that! The cheapest baby bath is Ikea for £4 proper big blue one as thats what I used for my son when he was born last year! But I would think a big washing up bowl would be just as good and cheap in places like Wilkinson or even supermarkets. Great tip about Swarfega and grease gland, not the nicest job but has to be nicer than cleaning a gelding (horse!) sheath which is what I had to do with my horse when I had him! lol
Any tips on products to use in general with Guineas on a regularish basis?

I always put mine in a washing up bowl lined with a teacloth or flannels so they have something to grip on. One at a time, i sit their front feet on my hand and use the other to do the washing as i tend to never go past their waists. I have lots of jugs of water pre prepared to rinsing them. I've tried many different ways of bathing them and this is always the easiest for me. Luckily mine have never been to fussed about the water. It is some thing they get used too though. I've had pigs in the past who hated it, and many a time we've had a soggy pig giving us the run around the bathroom.
