So Jezebel floofy pants who arrived yesterday is a) obese and b) long haired (some sort of aby/crested cross with a long mohican on her bottom and rosettes and donald trump hair and long ginger sideburns on her face? Super floof breed anyway). She really smells and is too fat to clean herself.
Should I bath her chubby undercarriage tomorrow and just go with mild human shampoo? I am a floofy human so can provide a relevant human hair care product!
Or do I order specialist piggy shampoo and leave her with stinky yellow wee pants until it is delivered?
I dont want to take her for her vet check later in the week looking and smelling like a toilet... but she might just pee down her big fatty legs and underneaths again...
What would irritate her skin and lady bits more, human shampoo or crusty old pee?
I've never bathed a piggy before but I think I'm going to be doing it quite regularly from now on!

I would personally use a small animal / guinea pig shampoo.
I use Johnson's insecticide shampoo as it smells lovely and leaves their for nice and soft
Thanks! Just ordered that (along with a set of grooming brushes and a rabbit-size Rosewood play tunnel for super-size piggies who can't fit their bottoms in most of our other hidey tubes :) )

She is cute.
My boy Finn has long hair, but he doesn't have Donald Trump's hair though, lol.

I cut his hair but I was advised not to wash him from this forum. I don't even know if he can handle bating. He is a good chap and tolerates his hair cut and nail cut but I haven't tried bathing him. I don't want to stress him out.

That’s really funky hair style! I bath my pigs so rarely I haven’t bought piggy shampoo. On the rare occasion I have to bum-bath BB I’ve used my OH’s head&shoulders. She’s pretty good being bathed (much better than nails) but hates being dried!

Stunning piggies.i use johnsons insecticidal shampoo, and gorgeous guinea pig shampoos.i bath my longhaired piggies every 2 months, and the others 2 to 3 times a year.

Just done some washing... its Jezebel floofy pants fresh from the bath!
And I made 2 very important discoveries:
1) Lady floofy pants loves having a bath! She sat still in a big purple bucket and made happy noises while I shampooed and rinsed her belly and bum. Think she's had baths before. Took less than 10 minutes
2) I think her bum and belly fur is actually naturally marmalade coloured so she's not as filthy as I thought lol :)

She's not crusty and smelly now anyway and has been inspired to give herself a bit of an extra groom, which I hadnt seen her do yet...

I have a white piggy with yellow trousers as well. I find the stain never completely comes out so might just have to live with hint of yellow.

I think she genuinely has marmalade coloured fur under there and on her back legs and feet and I just assumed it was all wee stains! She's cleaner anyway and she was so well behaved and didnt get upset so it seems like bathtime and grooming wont be a problem for her :)

She is gorgeous and lucky to have found a home with you.

Aww she looks happier. It couldn’t have been nice to be all stinky.

After reading this thread, I went and gave my long haired boy Finn a bath.

He stayed mostly quiet, such a good chap. By the third bucket of water to wash the shampoo away, he was shaking his entire body trying to get rid of water from his hair. So, as soon as I saw no more shampoo bubbles come from his hair, I put him on towel that was waiting for him to dry.
He did ok so I suppose if it makes him feel better and keep him healthier, I will continue to wash him.

My boy has long hair so how often should he bathe?

I don't bathe Betsy (my only long haired pig) very often. I give her bum baths when she starts to get matted around her rear end though. Sometimes the mats wash out but most of the time I end up cutting them off (She is obviously irresistible to the boys as it's boar glue:vom:)

Yes boar glue might be an issue... fortunately when Jezebel briefly met Theo through the cage bars he was friendly but he didnt really seem to think she was a guinea pig. She's more than twice his weight and he would definitely need a step ladder, and/or a forklift truck, if he had any romantic intentions!
