Bayleaf was spayed and had a tumour removed from her cervix just over two weeks ago. We managed to get her through the first post-op stage (with metacam, baytril, avipro and critical care plus yummy treats!) and though she's healing well and seeming perky she's still not eating enough to stop the critical care, and she's got ongoing diarrhoea. I'm taking her to see Malcolm the vet tomorrow.

She's a little fighter, bless her. I'll be glad when she's feeling better, for her sake, and so I can stop worrying!

Oh poor little baby. I really hope all goes well tomorrow. Good luck little one.

Sorry to hear that Bayleaf isn't back to her usual self yet. Good luck at the Vets tomorrow - hope he can get her sorted soon x

Good luck little Bayleaf! xoxo

Cameo is back on syringe feeding again mallethead

Pigs! Who'd have them!

Poor Bayleaf! I hope that she can get better soon!

Baytril can sometimes cause diarrhea. Perhaps your vet would like to try a different antibiotic? http://www.guinealynx.info/antibiotics.html Alternatively, the diarrhea may be due to the operation itself.

Thanks for the advice. I'm wondering whether the operation is the cause, as she hasn't been on Baytril for over a week now and I'm still giving her Avipro (probiotic) to settle her tummy.

It amazes me how she can still be in fairly good spirits and enjoy trotting around the lounge with the other piggies. I think I'll have to buy shares in carpet cleaner though!

Back from the vets. He thinks the diarrhoea is dietary rather than infectious. She's eating veggies and I'm a bit reluctant to reduce those as it's what she wants, but she's just not eating enough fibre. So we're going to cut back on the veggies and increase the critical care and mushed pellets. He also suggested adding in some extra vitamin C.

We'll give it a go and see what happens. She's been though a big op and is nearly five years old but I'm not giving up on her yet!

Well that sounds good. Luckily is it nothing serious. Poor little baby. |I really hope she gets better soon.

I was conscious of cameo not getting enough fibre when she was only interested in veg and not hay, so I gave her lots of corn cob leaves - they're really fibrous!

Brilliant tip - thanks! We now have poos that are squidgy (especially when she stands on them!) but at least are roughly the right shape. When she finally does a proper one I will frame it!
