I do hope someone can help me with this. I had to rush Splodge to the vet this evening because she was bleeding from her back end. The vet thinks it could be either a urine infection, uterine infection or a bleeding tumor in her uterus. We are trying baytril and hoping it is just an infection rather than cancer. Splodge is 3 and a half years old and weighs one kilo. The vet has prescribed 0.5 ml twice a day. I thought this seemed like too much. The vet checked her calculations again when I asked and still came up with the same result. Does anyone else think this is too much? I am really concerned that I might poison her if i give her this amount.

from what i have read on here it is usually 0.5mls twice a day, someone more in the know should come along soon to offer you help. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: welcome to you from me and the girls in oz :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: our vet in south oz doesn't prescibe baytril, if fact i don't think any of the vets here around me do, they use terramycin injections here. really hoping splodge gets better, when zoe was bleeding it was found her ovaries for cystic and she had a 20 gram mass growing on the out side of her uterus. thanks to maryh's vet(member here from the UK) who emailed my vet in oz zoe had surgery 2 months ago and is now recovering. zoe is 3.6 years old and weighs 900grams. sending you hugs and cuddles and hoping splodge gets better real soon. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: from the girls :-* :-* :-*

Thank you for your quick reply. I appreciate all help and advice. I lost a piggy only last week. She had been ill for a few weeks with a respiratory infection. I don't want to lose another. I makes me so sad.

so sorry you lost your piggy :'( :'( :'( may she run free in paradise and popcorn to her hearts content and watch over you and splodge. 0:) 0:) 0:) just wait until someone more knowledgable answers your post to make sure. they are a friendly helpful lot here. hugs and cuddles and again so sorry for your lost. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: 0:) 0:) 0:) run free sweet piggy. you could always ring another vet and ask about the doseage of baytril to see if it is correct. or a rescue centre or something similar. good luck. :smitten:

On the baytril packaging information slip the reccommended does is 0.2mg per kilogram body weight. Our guineas have been o 0.3 and 0.4mg twice a day prescribed by our vet and they have been fine but the were quite big pigs.
Maybe get a second opinion if you are not happy?

The dose rate for Baytril is 0.4ml per day.If the infection is severe,0.5ml per day could be given.

One of mine has just been treated with baytril for an infected toe (ripped the claw out). He weighs 1300 grams and was on 0.25ml twice a day.

Woodstock is on 0.5 once a day
