Hiya I’m only new (not to pigs I have four) and have never had pigs that had to go on this before. Yesterday morning I went down to see the boy pigs and there were spot of blood on the cage floor naturally I freaked out and checked them out. Hugo was fine but Duncan had a cut under his chin. He went to see the vet and she put him on baytril is this normal ? And should I clean the cut with Luke arm water everyday thanks 🙂

I am assuming it's a bite wound so the vet is giving the Baytril to prevent infection.
Have the boys fought before?

Sorry I’m only seeing this now yes it is a bite wound I’ve seen some chasing but I thought it was just them fighting for dominance the vet said to watch out for fighting and if it continues to separate them I’m hoping I won’t have to do that as keeping Lomé pigs is the last thing I want to do

Welcome to the forum
Hope the wound heals quickly and the bite was more playful accident than fighting

Thanks I’m really hoping that’s the case is there anything I can do to stop them fighting

Hi I am also new to the forum. Just wanted to say that I have 2 16 week old boars and they have been together since they were about 4 weeks old they have also had there more moments but it’s completely normal behaviour when they are trying to establish who is going to be top piggie. Mine have never drew blood mostly its just rumble strutting and mounting. I would recommend you keeping a very close eye on them as if they keep drawing blood then they will need to be separated. I hope it all works out for you.

Thanks I’ve never actually had boars before I just saw them for sale in less than good conditions and had to get them. They’ve never actually drew blood before this they didn’t even fight I’m thinking they can smell the girl piggies even though they aren’t anywhere near them I’ve cleaned there cage with vinegar spray so any scheme of the females is gone hoping it won’t go any further than this

I have sows but have a browse of the forum behaviour threads.
Sorry I can’t link it for you.
There is information about bonds in trouble which might help you to understand if you have a real problem or simple dominance behaviour.
Piggies sorting their hierarchy can be stressful for us but they know what they’re doing

sorry for the late reply I have started doubling up on everything there is two bowls two water bottles more than two hides about four gay pile and I have increased the space there in, the fighting has calmed down but I’m still keepin an eye thanks
