Curtis Cavies
Junior Guinea Pig
Hi everyone, I havent been on this site in a few years and wondered if anyone could please help. My friend has a little piggie called Pepsi. She noticed her breathing pattern changed and asked me for help. I advised a vet visit and told her they may give Baytrill to help.
Sadly none of the vets near us are guineapig savvy and the one she went to told her she didn't really know what was wrong but gave her Baytrill, to be diluted in water? Which is something I have never been told to do before , ever.. Always direct syringe into the mouth.
And then, alarmingly told my friend to give her piggie 2 days and if no better, to bring her back... for euthanasia!
I am so angry about this 'advice'. Pepsi is still eating and doing everything normally, not lethargic and still bright eyed...to tell my friend to take her back after only just 2 days to be pts... I am shocked and angry at this adivce.
Me and my friend have had guineapigs for over 40 years between us. We know when a piggie is unwell beyond hope.
So please can anyone advise or more, support me in telling my friend to give Baytrill undiluted with water and what else we can do with no savvy piggie vet nearby. Finances are extremely tight too for us both and this horrific advice cost my friend over £70!
