I just need to know if it's normal. I put some fresh hay in her hay thing and I go check on them in a few hours and there's none left and she's wheeking for more. Normal? Sorry if this is a stupid question. First time owner

Not a daft question at all.
Piggies need to eat HUGE amounts of hay. It should make up 90% of their diet. If you are using a trough or feeder Please keep it full at all times. And yes, wheeking for more hay is normal.

Okay thanks :mal: she eats so much I was wondering if it was normal

My lot have a hay tray, which they eat and play in. And they also wee and poo in it, which is why it now gets changed daily. My lot go crazy when they know that they are having fresh hay...

Oh yes, I have just started using the smaller hay tray in the loft. Both are converted dog beds, but one is much larger than the other. They love their pellets, but they adore hay.

I'm a new one to piggie world. i am learning and I been told several times Hay is main food and must be on constant supply. We used some from pet shop but it was crap. so Timothy Hay it is. Hope you ok

Comet is obsessed with hay. Playing in it, throwing it about the place, ignoring all the tasty veggies because hay is clearly better, disappearing in it...I basically have a layer of hay for them on the floor of my cage that I add to regularly. That way he can be as destructive as he likes with it! If you can get them a good hay that they adore, it's all the better I think.

Mine have a constant supply of hay. Even when out on the grass there is a constant supply of hay. They love grass of course but I have seen Betsy leave the nice lush long green grass in favour of hay.

My Patchy ignored her beloved pellets for hay the other day, first time EVER. I was so suprised and secretly a very proud piggy mummy. Hopefully it will be monkey see monkey do and Coco will follow suit but she marches to her own tune that one and will do whatever she wants regardless of what her sister does, except when it comes to hating foods as that seems to be a team effort lol.

Can anyone here let me know what hay they use and from where.... mine too popcorn when they know fresh stuff coming but ones I get all seem dusty and not very nutritious. .all brown not a bit of green in the Timothy hay at all...is that normal? The meadows a bit better with a bit of green but corse n bit spikey

Most hay bought in the northern hemisphere are this time of year will be fairly brown. This is because it's the tail end of the year in terms of harvest dates, so it'll be hay that's about a year old, rather than recently baled greener hay.
