I am every so sorry for your loss! Aspen was beautiful. She will always live in your heart.

Severe bloat is such a nasty thing to come down with; it can come out of the blue and it can kill. It leaves you shaken! :(

HUGS xx

PS: here are tips for what you can do for her friend: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/looking-after-a-bereaved-piggy.110463/

Aww thanks Wiekbe.

It's such a shock - poor wee girl. She had a full life ahead of her.

Need to move my focus to Mali now- was reading your link earlier. I wouldn't have known to put her body back with him otherwise. X x

I suppose it is like colic in horses. Sorry for your loss of little Aspen.
@Wiebke does feeding mint (included in pellets) help prevent it? Or is it just something that just can strike?

It is something that can just strike. My Ceri, who died from severe bloat in February, was on minted Burgess pellets. Hers came on very suddenly with no obvious reason and just refused to shift despite me treating immediately and seeing a vet promptly. :(

Aspen was on the minted burgess pellets too. It's like fighting a losing battle - you give all the treatments but it still gets worse. It's horrific x

So it is like colic in horses.

I'm so sorry, it came on so suddenly and was such a shock, poor angel. Hope you and Mali are ok. Night night beautiful Aspen.

sorry for your loss. @Treacle, it's just like colic in horses-the tricky thing with them is that once they've had it once they're susceptible to repeat attacks.

Yes. I have only ever know one of each. One horse with colic, who survived, and a piggy with bloat who didn't. I suppose they remain susceptible after having it once and survived.

So sorry about little Aspen, you did your very best. Popcorn free little piggy girl x

I am so sorry for your sad news about your gorgeous piggy. Huge hugs and love to you x

RIP Aspen

Thank you so much for your kind words - it means a lot.

I thought I would let you know that we rescued these two baby girls .

Meet Honor (8 weeks Old Abyssinian ) and Willow ( 6 weeks old Crested PEW).

It feels much too soon but these little girls will be in quarantine until they grow and show no signs of illness then they will be put with Mali.

Despite our own feeling we had to put Mali first and get on with getting a friend for him - just happens these two came along quickly and we couldn't say no!!

Little Honor had the sniffles so we were at the vet this morning so both girls are on antibiotics as a precautionary measure.

They both love Aspens old house, and I think Aspen would be delighted that two wee ones are getting use out of it and enjoy it as much as she did.

Aww thank you- it's a bit strange having babies. They know nothing about life. One is currently asleep in the food bowl rather than the comfy house!
