Hi everyone,
I spot clean my boys every day and change their mats every other day. I have to wash the bedding at least 2 2 3 times to get rid of their smell. I know bleach and fabric softener is a no no, and I do use white vinegar. Is their anything else I can use to make their bedding smell nice that is safe for them. Ginger..

I can only help by bumping your thread as I use wood shavings or hemp. If your boars are middle aged, they might be retaining poop in their pockets. You can clean them carefully with a moist Q tip, being careful not to pull anything out forcefully in case it's dried on and stuck. You can usually only smell it when they flare their bottoms to scent mark, but ripe guinea pig poo does have a tendency to linger. Just a thought, I hope it helps.

I use Napisan which I find gets red pepper stains out of the liners and leave the washing smell free. I also line dry so it all comes in doors smelling of fresh air, (unless and anti social neighbour has had a bonfire!).

I use laundry cleanser and occasionally give it all a longer hotter wash. I also leave it on the line even after it's dry so it gets a good airing.

Hi Piggyminder, I will try that also thank you. I can't line dry mine atm as the council have scaffolding round my block of flats and my balcony is a no access zone atm. I dry mine on the airer once done, my clothes smell lovely but the Cavys mats not so much. Do I get the Napisan off amazon? Thanks for your feed back also.

Hi Fluffysal.
Is it a normal laundry cleanser you use for humans or is it for pets and where could I get it from if its for pets the one you use? I usually wash mine on a 40, next is 60. Sometimes they come out smelling lovely but half of the time they don't. It's not a nasty smell but I can still smell my cavys. Thanks for your feed back also.

I usually get Napisan in B&M but you can also get it in supermarkets. I don't use Amazon but I should imagine you can get it there.
The laundry cleanser/disinfectant is available in B&M or supermarkets, Dettol do one or most supermarkets have their own.

Thank you I'll have a look in BnM tomorrow 🙂

Just ordinary laundry cleanser. I also use an eco egg instead of detergent which helps as it bashes it around in the drum. I think many of us add water to the machine when it's washing too as sometimes they don't get wet enough to wash properly. There are several threads about people's different hacks to get the fleeces nicely clean. The obvious thing is to not wash too many at once.
Anyway we need to know about your piggies. I have a pair of boys, Dignified Sir George and his sidekick Mischievous Master Boris.

I only put 4 5 mats in at a time, i just want them to smell clean. Ok then, I have 4 boys. 2 are brother's and unwanted pets, they are 4 and a half years old. Then I have another 2 boys called Raven who's 1 and a half years old. And then their is are Winston who is who's just over 3 months. I had a bonding session with them other day for 30 minutes, it seemed to go OK, I think. Winston was pop corning and Raven was like, where you going. They ate veggies from my hand and they ate the hay I put in the middle of the pen. Winston answers me when.i call his name which makes me chuckle. I Lost my Denzel in march and he was 5 years. He was ginger and white, just like me. 🙂 I have them both in 2x5 c n c grid cages I did myself. Raven n Winston are separated with a divider, I will be having another go at bonding them tomorrow. I love the names of your cavys 🙂

Thank you 🥰 I think so, their little sweet hearts really. My plan was to have all girls 4 in one big 2x10 c n c grid cage, but when my friend said her kids are not interested in kev n Derek n I can't find homes because people want females I said ok, I will take them 🙂.

You will find a lot of boar fans on here. Have you checked out some of the dedicated or fun threads yet? My boys have their own thread The Beastie Boys. You should look at Boars Galore 🍒 and Feet out Friday too.

No i havent, I have only joined a few months ago. I've been on other guinea sites and when.i asked for a opinion about my 2 boys about bonding does it look.promising it got declined. But you all seem really nice on here..

Your piggies are so lovely- welcome to the forum 🥰
@Piggies&buns or another expert will advise you further (you might need to make another thread) but bonding needs to be done in one session, not lots of little sessions. There's a lot of misinformation out there in other parts of the internet, but here is a really solid guide from the forum: Bonding and Interaction: Illustrated social behaviours and bonding dynamics

Thank you @ScrufflesRules for tagging me

When bonding boars you put them on neutral territory for several hours. After those hours in neutral and if all has gone well then you move them to their permanent cage together. It then takes two weeks to fully settle the hierarchy.
With boars, what you cannot do is put them together multiple short sessions over several days. Every time you separate you abort the bonding process meaning they have to start from the beginning each and every time, they then never get far enough into the process. This causes stress and can, at worse, cause the bonding to fail.

Please put them on neutral territory and if all goes well, never separate them again.
