Hi, i have recently adpoted some pigs and they are going to spend winter outside, I think!, What is the best bedding? they currently have hay but they keep eating it, along with what I feed them, what else can I use? do they made a bed like other rodents?

Are they in a hutch? Is is possible to put the hutch in a shed?
I would use thick layer of newspaper, aubiose or megazorb on top of that, then loads of hay. You can get a heatpad which you pop in the microwave and it stays nice and warm for hours, it is made by snugglesafe. If the hutch isnt in a shed, you will need either a hutch hugger or a duvet or old blamkets over the hutch to keep the worst of the cold out.
Best of all though is if you could keep them inside over winter :)
 
Well I would keep them inside, however we found out that my hubby is allergic to them! I might bring them in and put them in the downstairs bathroom, but its not ideal. I have a garage (no car), but not sure how you get natural light to them.
 
If your hubby is a DIY man, could he knock out a hole to make a window ;D
He probably isn`t allergic to the actual fur of the guineas but either their urine or the hay. I was horribly allergic to the hay and tried several different types and am now using www.dustfreehay.co.uk, it is brilliant, no more sneezing, wheezing or itchy eyes. It is a bit dearer but it is top quality stuff. Might be worth giving it a go?
 
I'm with you on dustfreehay lavenderjade, I love it. Also, your hubby could take a simple anti allergy tablet like piriteze like I do. I am allergic to tree pollen, tree sap and fungal spores but I'm also bothered by something piggy hay although not fresh grass :D. I don't have any issues now because I get a prescription.
 
Hi I've just bought some vetbed for mine, they too will winter outsie (alas no other option). The vet bed allows the pee to soak through to the underside so they aren't sitting on damp hay/bedding. You do have to wash it and apparently it can be difficult to remove all the hay first....but a top tip from the forum was to put it in a pillowcase to stop clogging your machine! You still need to fill the area with hay....I'm thinking of getting a litle igloo bed to bury in the hay too, as well as heatpads lesley
