Hi all I'm new to having piggies and I'm wondering about bedding.

I have my 2 male piggies in a c&c built cage and I have been looking on some face book forums who seem to rave about Astro turf as flooring with puppy pads under.

They say it's easy to clean as you just hoover or sweep poop out daily, then once a week take out and hose down and change puppy pads.

Just wondered if anyone else had this set up and how they find it?

Many thanks x

I would love to use fleece but after 2 years of washing my babies nappies I'm hanging my Mother Nature apron up ! Fleece looks lovely but I just can't face all the washing xx

I don't know what FB pages you've seen - I don't agree with using Astro turf for flooring for guinea pigs

Yes astroturf could potentially cause a blockage or an upset tummy because it's not meant to be digested. I agree with vet bed.

You could use towel, newspaper, puppy pads, incontinence pads or mattress protectors cut to size, all are good options to use under fleece or vet bed.

I currently use Fitch paper bedding because it's cheap and dust free, but will be switching to fleece soon to save money in the long term and because the pigs manage to get bedding everywhere.

I've never heard of that before. We use fleece.
May I ask please, do you have to wash it daily and use fresh fleece, or does the waste pass through easily, so rinse every few days ? Thanks

Is it not a type of plastic?
I also use Vetfleece but yes, I'm always washing!
Some areas contain newspapers under lots of hay so they've somewhere to cosy up in other than their nests!

I use fleece liners with zorb, mattress protectors or washable incontinance pads as the absorbent layer in the middle of two fleece layers.

Most of their wees are done in their hay trays. Hemp based bedding and HAY.

I shake out the liners every couple of days and wash them once or twice a week.
