Hi Guys!

Quick question.. at the minute i use woodshavings for my boars bedding, but i'm finding that they smell really quickly! I don't know if it's because i have a new baby piggy (Pip) and my older boar is scenting? or if their just having a stinkly week lol! If i use fleece, or blankets as their bedding, which is best to buy? I've seen on anothe post that it is best to put puppy pads underneath these and i should clean that every 3-4 days, but does anyone have any suggestions? My partner walked into the house yesterday and said he could smell the pigs, and i dont want others to be able too when i have family and friends round! :lol!: Help!

xx

Pigs smell, no way of getting around it I am afraid. The larger the cage the less you will have to clean. With wood shavings we cleaned our Ferplast 120cm twice a week so every 3-4 days this kept the smell down.

We use fleece now and use the towels under the fleece.

If you are considering switching bedding, I’d suggest fleece. Fleece, on top of an absorbent layer, wicks the urine and keeps the surface dry. It’s also relatively easy to clean — all you need is a dustpan.

Fleece can also be cost efficient. While it may seem costly at first, you just have to buy two, as you wash and reuse fleece. With paper and wood shaving bedding, you have to keep getting packages, and the cost adds up.

Or another option might be to get a quiet air filter. These should filter out the dust and smell.
