Bedding

Just need to add my Ikea bath mats after they wash and then I have so many toys and hides to add

You need 12 grids to make the lid.
Three grids per row. You overlap three of them and cable tie them together in a line so they are rigid. Do that with all of the grids to make four separate rows of three. . Then join all the 4 rows together (or you can join them as two and two make it in two halves so you can open half the lid at a time). Then cable tie it to the back of the cage so it acts as a hinge. Because you’ve overlapped three you can make it slightly bigger than two grids of the cage wide, the front of the lid should then slightly overhang the front of the cage and rest of the front row of grids so it doesn’t fall in. You can then open and close it like a lid on a chest for example

I have a lid. It's sturdy. I have every corner of this zipteied. I've been working on it for 10-12 hours straight now. I still have more hides and tunnels to add to both of there cages and play area. I have a 3 pound box of guinea dad hay and I have a couple piles under some of there hides or will rather. That's 1 of there hay piles under there

It's only 8 grids but that's the way the cage instructed with these 4 back ones with a bar and it opens differently then the others I saw. I keep it clipped closed on the front

Does it reach the other side exactly and sit on it? I think the idea of overlapping wouldn’t have been a bad one just to be sure.

PS they must be enjoying their new cage!

Didn’t see the picture with the lid - just saw your post saying you needed to figure out how to do it!

If what you have done works and it secure then that’s fine. Most of the instruction kits for lids I’ve seen here have three overlapped grids for rigidity and to make it slightly bigger than the cage so it is secure.

I payed pretty good for this wood house. I think it's more of a tunnel tho then something for them to lay in comfortably or maybe they just still prefer the pigloo and pocket. That worked pretty well to ones under the igloo eating and the others under the blanket next to him

I forgot to mention the stairs on it tho. It looked good in the picture but I think they might hurt themselves on it. I'm taking the ladder off

Yes I would remove it.
They’re not likely to use them - they’re too steep and without any grip. If they want to get on top of the hide they will just jump (my youngsters are always on top of hides rather than in them! My eldest two are now too old to jump on top now but they used to when they were younger)

I like this house but I the hay holder on it scares me. I think it's to high for them to climb but if they did they might fall in the hay holder and get stuck. As long as it's stuffed with hay they can't I guess

Is the back of the hay part just bars? If so then I would turn it round so they can eat through the bars of it.

They are never going to climb those steps on it though so you may as well position it so the step part is inaccessible

The inside has open slots so they can eat it from inside. I have the guineadad box full of hay and a hay bag. They probably have 5 pounds of hay in there cage lol. I don't think they'll get on top of it either unless I put something next to it for them to climb on

Perhaps move the front left tie forward 2 squares. Be aware if they pee on the chair it won’t be soaked up.

Chewing on the wood house should be fine. They explore with their mouths.

The fleece forest needs to be tight against the top grid. You don’t want any sag in that top part of it

Ah I see!

It looks like the wooden house comes about half way up a grid? If so and therefore it is certainly at a height that they could jump on top of it.

I think I'll have to zip tie another grid for the forest maybe cut the strings down a bit to. The top of the house is about 3 grids down out of the 9

Best deal I just found to have hay delivered is a western Timothy compressed hay bale 50 pounds for $50 with delivery. If I had a car it would be $30 if I can pick it up. I'd say they went through 12-15 pounds of hay in there first month. I thought it would be more since I read just 1 can eat 9 pounds in a month

These toftbo bathmats are holding up better than the actual cage liner did. I'm gonna have to buy more.
I have quite a lot of that (toftbo and other brands). I use that in the areas where they pee a lot because they absorb much better. If you also want to change it everyday, it dries up quickly too.

Although I've developed a bit of a online shopping addiction lol. Them and my cat have gotten over a thousand dollars worth of stuff this month. Temu just had really good deals on cat stuff I spent another $70 on but there wasn't to much guinea pig stuff. My cats set for life though now lol. They got more stuff then they need right now to. 2 fleece forests. 6 or 7 different hides. 2 big wood houses. A leather couch. Lol.
