hi guys i have a friend thst uses shreaded newspaper for bedding for her 2 guinea pigs, i noticed this yesterday while at her house and i asked her about it and she just said it keeps them warm and its cheap, i am just a new guinea pig owner and wondering if this is safe for them ? x

well i use newspapers under megazorb and under a bit of fleece, i think it is fine. But i would imagine shredded newspaper would break down and become a lot more soggy mess that a firm newspaper that is kept as it comes.

only my opinion though, i dont know. :)

I think it depends how often they're cleaned out.

When I volunteered at the RSPCA they used shredded paper as bedding for the rabbits and guinea pigs as it was donated in huge amounts. The animals were kept inside, and cleaned out every day (by yours truely amongst others!) so they were warm enough, and the shredded paper didn't get a chance to get too soggy.

yeh i use news paper on the bottom, i just was not sure shes not the kinda of person *** *** do anyhin thts not safe for her animals she loves her guinea pigs but i just wanted 2 make sure :) x

I think i will stick to cageliners:))

Cheap as they are reuseable, i would need 1 bag of megazorb every 7 to 10 days to fill my cage and i dont fancy cleaning soggy newspaper off my tray:(
