hi i was just wondering what bedding everyone uses? what is megazorb like? i really dont like the smell of hay i find p@h one a bit strong can anyone reccomend a one that does not smell as strong please.
 
I use cage liners, they are washable and last a week and look nice and last forever! but my pigs are indoors

Please look in the housing section, there are loads of reviews for all kinds of bedding there and you will get a more comphrehensive review of them.

For my stinky boars
IMHO megazorb cannot be beaten its perfect and lasts a whole week without getting wet or smelling. Finacard is a close second for me and at half the price I choose to use it instead of megazorb. Fleece stank badly after a day or two and they were always wet.

For my oh so non smelly girlies
Fleece with puppy pads works ok and lasts around 5 days for a trio of sows. I havent tried them on anything else though mind I dont feel the need to as fleece works.

For my bunny
fleece and puppy pads last forever as she only goes in her hay box! only the pad under hay box needs doing as sometimes she sprays abit and misses the tray haha

For my hamsters
I use finacard for them and that lasts a week for my syrians and two weeks for my dwarfs. Megazorb lasts 3 weeks for my dwarfs and 2 weeks for my syrians if I clean their pee corner out frequently but I have finacard at the moment.

Bear in mind that whatever bedding you use, the piggies will need constant access to hay as it forms 80% of their diet.
 
For my girls I use either the liner from Lorraine or newspaper, towel then fleece.


For Rolo (lovely but typical boy lol)
He's on woodshavings at the mo as we had some left but fleece lasts him 2-3 days when I use that.

I use vetbed or fleece on top of newspaper.
I heard alarm bells when you said you don't like the smell of hay. Please make sure you give them plenty of hay. As you've been advised it makes up the greatest part of their diet and essential for them! :)
 
i know that they need constant hay and they do! alarm bells dont need to ring as they will be very well cared for.i just find the smell of p@h own make very over powering but i will be geting timothy hay i think. just wanted some good advice.
 
i also use fleece liner, i've stitched my own to a cut up mattress protector then have a layer of towel and newspaper underneath (with a final permanent layer of tarpaulin underneath it all)


I have hay directly in the run, on a sort of litter try and it does make its way all over the run which is rather annoying but it is what it is, when changing the liner i'll take the soiled one outside (after removing all poop etc) and give it a good shake in the wind then put it in the washer.

4piggiepigs, i love your liners and the little corner hidy you've made is great, must try one of those myself do your piggies sleep in there or do they sleep in a different house?

I made them for other people but they can sleep on or under them,i make lots of different toys and they like them all the same really
 
P@H hay is revolting, I'm not surprised you don't like the smell. You're better off ordering off the internet, there's Dust Free Hay, Hay for Pets and Zooplus do a nice mountain meadow hay as well as other suppliers, it works out a lot cheaper buying big bags/bales from these online suppliers and it's lovely smelling fresh hay. It's worth trying a few and seeing what works for you and your piggies. Whichever hay you choose, you'll need to check for thistles, stalky bits etc before you give it to your piggies which obviously crops up sometimes in the longer stranded freshly baled stuff.

Hay for Pets are a good supplier, I used Zooplus Meadow Hay but the last batch was musty so stick with Hay for Pets now. The Ings Hay was a hit with my lot when I ordered the sample packs :))

Yes, I'm sticking to Ings since finding all of those stalky weeds in the meadow hay although to be fair that was probably just a duff bale.. I should be getting my free replacement 9.5kg bag in the next day or so. The Dust Free Hay is also very good and definitely hardly any dust but not a long cut like the Hay For pets so tends to flatten quite quickly.
I don't think we'll ever find a supplier that has perfect hay every time due to the nature of the product which is why I've tried so many.
