Both Esme and Ruby were treated with baytril about 2 weeks ago. Since then both girls have regained the weight that had been lost and seemed happy in themselves. As the weightloss was the only initial symptom, I decided to make another vets appointment (on Helen's advice) to see Hannah, the vet who deals with the potteries piggies.
She had a feel of both girlies and Esme made it obvious that her bladder was quite sore, but was very reluctant to give a urine sample. Another massage later and we got a sample containing some visible blood. Hannah couldn't feel any stones, and when the urine was tested it was shown that Esme had a UTI.
She has been prescribed marbocyl and metacam and we are to give to give her some cystease mixed with water.
As marbocyl is an antibiotic, am I best to give a probiotic with it? IS it as bad as baytril for upsetting the gut?
Esme seems okay with the marbocyl taste but I don't think she likes the metacam.
Also what foods am I best to avoid or to give? I have had a look at the phosphorus:calcium ratio sticky and am a little confused.
xx
