We took the kids to Court Farm Country Park, near to Weston-Super-Mare and found 3 bored rabbits laying huddled together in with 5 guinea pigs. They guinea pigs did have 1 small play house and a lot of space, hay on the floor, I felt so sorry for them.
I did raise the matter with one of the family who lives there but they did not seem to care.

Awwww :( It does still happen i know as they do that at a local farm near me and they dont care :-\

I went to a local pet shop a couple of weeks ago to look for a new hutch. They had five cages with guineas and bunnies in together! :tickedoff: I had a word with the Manager and he said they'd always had that set up so I explained the problems of housing them together and the awful consequences that could happen. He just shrugged and said there'd never been a problem yet and he didn't see why there should be one now. I said I'd never been hit by a bus but that doesn't mean it'll never happen! He still couldn't see my point! :tickedoff:

thats just not right at all but i do have to admit the pet store i go to the piggies and rabbits are in seperate cages so thats good O0

Theres a kids farm type place near me, and although the pig and bunnies are separate, they are all housed in outdoor runs with open tops all year round. I dread to think how many they lose to foxes. The runs aren't on grass, they are on wood chippings like you have under climbing frames at the park. There are signs up asking people not to feed them grass.

In another fenced off area there are about 30 hutches. They take in pigs and bunnies with no homes, which is nice, but they are all in tiny, dirty hutches, with no hutch covers or anything. A lady asked one of the members of staff if guinea pigs can be housed in a outdoors run permanently, and I overheard her reply that the resident piggies live in theirs all year round, even in snow.

I dont really know what to make of it. If I say something I bet nobody will listen.

Gosh.. :tickedoff: I'd kick off if I encountered that.

(Mind you, I don't have much self control. ;D)

That really does not sound right! I think I'd have a word anyway and even if they don't listen or change anything at least you will have tried. Those poor little creatures :'(

Well, I was going to ask if i could do work experience there but changed my mind when I saw the place.

Maybe I'll email them, as I'd really rather not go back there.

Is it not against the new animal cruelty law to house buns and pigs together?

I'll PM it to you Dazie, as I dont want to get in trouble for saying negative things about somewhere on here. I got told off for posting about a bad vet, not realising the implications, so I wont make that mistake again. :-X

Good thinking SL! I'm going to check up on that and go back to the pet shop I moaned at last week. :tickedoff: I know they wont have changed their ways but if I threaten them with the Act then they may think twice. They had enough cages for bunnies and piggies to live with their own sex & kind, so why are they so insistent on keeping them together? I'm baffled! 98)
