following on from this thread:

http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/maisie-has-cystitis.109287/

maisie has been clear of cystitis for nearly eleven weeks now, and then last night, her urine was a pinky colour. no hunching, squeaking or weight loss though.

took her to the vets today and she had a check over and a urine sample taken. good news is that it is totally clear

so it's looking like one of those random coloured piggy wee's to make me panic! even though i can't think of anything she could have eaten to cause it. but it has happened before. pesky piggies

i was so worried but phew! got to keep an eye on her now and if it happens again, i have a sample pot to collect a sample from her to take in. but obviously if she has any other symptoms then she will have to go back aswell.

also had eddie checked over aswell and he's fine.

That's good news.

You could always get some urine test sticks so in future you can test at home. They are only an indicator but will show if there is likely to be an infection.

i keep meaning to get some, and then forgetting. :mal:

i'm so relieved she is ok . :luv: the vet nurse was cuddling her and seemed quite taken with her :luv:

thanks. i would have been so gutted for her if the cystitis had come back again. so relieved my baby girl is fine. :luv:

Great news. I ran out of usual salad supplies a while back and my OH fed my piggies some mixed leaves from a bag. Cue pink wees in 2 cages, paranoia on my part and a rummage in the bin to find the bag. Red chard was the culprit!

It's very hard to know if it's real blood or not, you have my sympathy! Generally if it's a wee that is coloured by what they've eaten, then patch will have a definite line to the outer edge of the patch, whereas blood tends to look even. I have the dipsticks & go through them at a rate of knots as I have 2 piggies that sometimes wee pink, one is a bladder piggy & the other has cystic ovaries. The other cause of pinky wee I found has been when they have had a lot of grass :)

that is interesting about the outer line because i noticed that this time and thought it was a bit strange! there hasn't been any since.

maisie has had cystitis and she has ovarian cysts and has been having lots of grass lately aswell! they had a few dandelions last week so i did think it could be those but a week seems too long ago to affect the urine colour? but you never know. they like to worry us don't they.
