my guinea pig ginger has been to the vets 3 times now!
the first was a suspected womb infection which was treated with baytril , i took her because she had white/milky urine
baytril didnt work , urine still the same!
took her again a month later as she was ok in herself, eating , drinking, pooping normal & popcorning but her urine was leaving behind white gritty stuff
vet diagnosed bladder sludge due to high calcium!
changed her nuggets to ones with no alfafa in & was giving her low calcium veg
she's still fine no weight loss & being her usual self the grit has gone
took her again today because she was whining while pooping & her urine is still a bit milky
vet said it could be an inflamed bladder ?/
while we were there she pooped a few times with no whining or squeaking & peed & it was clear !
i give up rolleyes
vet felt her bladder & tummy & said all was fine
brought her home & she's fine she hasn't whined yet
i didn't take her cage mate with her to the vets , the vet said she might be making the noise to warn the other pig not to come near her while she's going to the loo ?/
seems a bit dull to me
anyway the vet gave me metacam to give her if she starts whining again so we will see how we get on with that rolleyes

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but i thought milky urine is actually normal?

It may be worth speaking to your vet to get a urine sample sent away to a lab to see if it is an bacterial infection causing the problems (UTI) sometimes UTI's may be very stubborn and require longer doses of Antibiotics. Septin is regarded as the antibiotic of choice for UTI's by many vets..
If she keeps doing it, it will be worth asking for an x-ray to rule out Bladder Stones - x-rays can be done without general anesthetic.

One of our piggies suffers from recurrent bouts of non bacterial cystitis, after an x-ray ruled out stones and her urine showed no bacteria. We give her a little bit of Metacam everytime it flares up and increase her liquid intake. After a day or two the blood disapears and she is well again.

Hope Ginger feels better soon.

I asked about an x ray & the vet said no need as she couldnt feel any stones or anything happens & that when she was pooping in the vets she made no noise ?
I also asked about antibiotics & she said that her urine was normal?
I am beginning to get confused now or this pig is giving me the runaround !
Will keep an eye on her anyway . she's fine in herself & eats well and drinks well so Will weigh her everyday now to see any weight loss.none so far thank goodness.
Will give her a drop of metacam if she does squeak though.
Her urine has always been milky since I've had her these past 10 months
it was gritty once but that's gone now.
I give up!
