Well I have been treating both McMac and Sprout for mites. At first Sprout was the one with noticeable signs and McMac didn't seem to have been touched but the vet gave me treatment for McMac too.
Well Sprout seems to have cleared up and everything but I have noticed that McMac has started getting flaky patches and looks a little sore from what I can only guess is him itching himself.

Here are some pics, is it mites? I gave them their second treatment on Saturday and aren't due their third for another 6 weeks I think

This I had a hard time getting a pic of but it has a yellowish look to it

Oh poor fella, first instinct tells me fungal, but could be mites, i think i would be tempted to take him to the vet for a proper diagnosis and treat from there, as the treatments are very different, but for now you can apply sudocream to the affected area's (not his eye) as it will be soothing for him x

Yes a bath would be ok, but you need to know what to use, as the shampoo's are different, gorgeous guinea's are the best to use, though for fungal infections i have used Nizoral shampoo, which has worked well with sudocream.

I would especially get him checked for the yellowy wounds if nothing else, they could be infected.

I will try out some bathing and keep and eye on him. If it is still there/gets any worse then I will get an appointment at the vets by Friday/Saturday as that is when I get paid

oooh that looks sore!,poor lil piggy, you must be sooo worried, it looks simular to my friends hamster, tho i know there not the same species, it was mites but it had caused a infection its where they itch and scratch, break the skin only very slightly and infection gets in,
the mite treatment will work if it is mites but if theres a infection as well then antibiotics will be needed,or special medicated bathes for small animals, also it does look like a fungal infection so could be that? but to really know for sure can you take your piggy to the vet? that why your know for sure,
I'm so sorry your piggy's going through this and hope piggys get better very very soon, try not to worry,
ive just had two trips to the vets myself for my baby piggy,he had a snuffly nose and was sneezing, cos hes a baby they only gave him a very tiny amount of
septrin [paediatric] susp but he wasnt on it for long enough so he did improve but it didnt get rid of it,now hes on the second lot his snuffles have almost gone!so if your piggy needs antibiotics i know that ones ok for them i know they do one for adult piggys also,
good luck and i really hope your piggy gets well soon :)

The reason I went to the vets in the first place was because I believed it to be fungal but the vet said it was more like mites. Sprout has cleared up as far as I can tell but McMac has started developing it.
I wont be able to take him to the vet until I get paid. Mum is away on holiday for 2 weeks and I don't have enough for a vet visit until Friday/Saturday as that is when I get paid, so I will try to get hold oh some bathing stuff

It looks rather like fungal; typically, it is in the face, but it can also appear on other parts of the body. Best to have properly diagnosed. Mites and fungal can looks much more similar in the early stages than the (clear) pictures make you think. You always need to have both possibilities in mind unless you are dealing with a textbook case.

Do your vets not offer a payment plan, treat now pay later?

Many do, it might be worth enquiring, last thing you want is for it to get much much worse and cost much much more. xx

The vets won't do a pay later plan. I have asked before and they said no. Unless I try to ask my mum to send money over, which I doubt she will do, I will have to wait until I get paid

Highly recommend Gorgeous Guineas Kwench Lotion for fungal. Cleared my boys up and hair gee back all lovely and fluffy after a few weeks. I also use the Manuka shampoo every so often. You can always email Chrissy at GG. She really is so helpful and ever so nice!

Until you can get him/them to the vets for a proper diagnosis i would keep handling to an absolute minimum and only if necessary. If it's fungal, this can be transferred to humans i.e ringworm. On of my boys had this a couple of years ago and soon after his fungal infection cleared up with the help of some ointment prescribed by the vets my daughter caught ringworm.

Unfortunately even though she was applying prescribed cream daily and we kept it covered so she didn't touch it, she still managed to infect other areas of her body namely her chest, chin and arm - she ended up with 4 different areas of ringworm - it's highly contagious :{ as i recall it took around 4-5wks for her to get rid of it fully!

I dont envy you - ridding a piggie of fungal/ringworm is a lengthy process - when i first got one of my sows it took 6-7wks before she was fully clear of it! Hand washing is an absolute must as is cage cleaning!

Could you post which mite treatment you have been using, and how the length of time between treatments please.

Suzy x

Oh well I have been handling and touching him quite reguarly (since I assumed it was mites and was clearing up) and I haven't seemed to have caught anything yet

The treatment they both have is Xeno 450
The times for treatment were the day I took them to the vets which was the 18 of Aug, again in 2 weeks (Saturday just gone) and another in 6 weeks

Hey I just checked McMac today and his eye has looked as though it has cleared up. It has lost all it's flakeyness and is just smooth pink skin

His leg is still the same, I put some Sudocrem on it incase it feels irritated,

Also I managed to lay McMac on his back a bit and had a look at the yellow bit, gave that a light brush and it came away, I think it must have been something else
