Can piggies eat these? Got given a load from the grocer - but can't find them listed as either OK or safe. The list on here says "beet greens" but don't think that is the same......
I have read differing views, some say they are poisonous but I know that isnt the case as all mine have had the leaves and been absolutely fine. I have also read that they are high in folic acid which isnt too good for guineas, at least not over a period of time.
Best advice I can give is if youre not sure, dont feed it.
At the time I gave mine, I thought they were perfectly safe and as I said, none of mine had any ill effects....if anyone knows for sure, I would be interested to know too
I would have thought they would be OK, they are sometime included in the salad mixes you can get from the supermarket. I have never given them to my mine though
List of safe foods and calcium sources, page 40 of the guineapiglopaedia, beet greens are listed as safe to eat.
Calcium 188mg, phosphorus 80mg....so high in calcium.
