is beetroot ok to feed daily. Just discovered my girls love it but its makin there poo's red so don't know if it should be given as a treat or fine to feed often.

Do you mean fresh beetroor or the squishy pickled stuff?

I think it makes hoomin wee change color as well though, lol! so no worries there..

Never thought to give my piggies beetroot, how do you prepare it for them?

i had a bag of mixed beetroot salad with leaves and wee strands of beetroot through it and they picked all the beetroot out so i was going to buy them a fresh beetroot from the fruit n veg section. Wouldn't risk the pickled stuff. i'm not sure how i would prepare fresh beetroot cause i don't like it so i've never had it but i'd probably cut it into cubes for them x

Yes beetroot is ok to feed them......... i used to ..........(can't now cause of Velvet being diabetic)......... but i used to only feed a very small amount twice a week at the most... i used to cut a thin slice off a whole beetroot bout 1/4" or smaller if it's a large beetroot, then peel off the skin and then dice or slice into pieces for them, they LOVED it :)

i wouldn't advise giving the pickled stuff, but fresh is fine as far as i know. my girls have it a couple of times a week at most

I've grown some purple&white stripey beetroot! They look really cool, but they don't taste that great...So I gave some to my squigles lol
They love the leaves anyway, and 3 of mine really liked the beetroot, my other 4 had a few nibbles and ate some of it.

i give mine beetroot as a treat sometimes, never had a problem, except for when bob rolled in some once and it dyed his fur pink and i thought he was bleeding! haha! x

Mine love fresh beetroot and I just give them a couple of thin slices each 1-2 times per week. Buy a big bunch from the grocers near to work so waste a lot but only costs £1.29. The leaves are not that good for them in large amounts though so only give them a tiny piece.
Funnily enough, the mixed salad people have mentioned with the slithers in, they pick out too so expected them not to like beets :{ Think it's the Bistro one from Asda ?/
My little sow is pure white and looks as though she has savaged her mate when she's finished scoffing the stuff :...
Have tried them recently with Buttersquash too but no go mallethead

Yep, beetroot is great! My pigs love it, and because I'm won't let them die their hair, they use this to temporarily die themselves pink! LOL ;)
Don't worry, their wee and poo does go red, but isn't nothing. Don't forget to take the peel out if they don't eat it, to prevent rotting.
It can be given everyday if you like, as part of their fresh vegetables. But, I personally, give them different fruit and veggies every day, to keep them interested. :) x

You're comment made my LOL so much - it totally reminded me of my girls. I have a long haired white, so the whole front of her chest is dyed pink by the time she finished, she makes me giggle so much! And when my little cream has had it, it looks like she has put on some blusher on her cheeks! :(|)

There's nothing more funny than watching an elegant, gracefull, pure white long haired regal looking piggie stuff their face with something incredibly messy and literally, make a pig of themselves!

I used to have a long haired white, and he had a *thing* for tinned mushy peas... OM NOM NOM NOM NOM *Green mush everywhere, all down his chin, on his paws, on his EARS...*
