Hi guys, my 3yr old boar has just had a bath this morning and I saw his feet and how swollen and red they’d become :(. I’m pretty stunned how I haven’t spotted it before.

He’s always had chubby pink feet, but they look red now and larger and puffier than usual. I can see a little scab aswell.

So I’ve given him an epsom salt soak and have some F&M cream on the way and I’ve booked him in to the vets on tuesday. He’s also on fleece bedding atm so I’m not sure what else I can do! :soz:

Hi! Good that you have booked him in. Please do not overreact and overtreat on spec.

Feet can become rather pink when a piggy is very hot.

@Wiebke You’re probably right, I won’t do any more epsom until I’ve been to the vets. But the scabs have completely disappeared which is great! Here’s some pics anyway! (Excuse my horribly bitten nails!)

The feet look mildly sore to me, but not worryingly so. Please be aware that by overtreating soles you can cause more problems than you solve as soft skin is prone to cracks, which in turn allows bugs to get into a foot.

Are they kept on fleece? Perhaps you might want to check the washing powder you are using.

That’s a relief! :) Yeah you’re right, I’d better just play it safe and see what the vet says! Thanks so much, I’ll check the washing powder I’m using!

They look like kissable feets!

Well done for being so vigilant, hope all goes well at the vets! :)

Is your washing powder non-bio? If not it's certainly worth switching as it's better for them :) I even wash my own stuff in non-bio now because of the piggy fleece :))

Great idea! I just checked now and it’s not, I’ll pop down to the shops tomorrow and be sure to pick some up  . Thanks a lot!

I also use strictly non-bio for all fleeces.
