Eriathwen
Senior Guinea Pig
I officially adopted Bella in 2022, shortly after being approved to adopt Cherry and her blind sister Pearl. I had seen Bella up for adoption off and on for a while, I had previously adopted Poppet and Clover from the same place and regularly kept an eye on who was available..
Bellas story started a few years before that, after bullying her sister, she was surrendered to the rescue where in their herd, she relaxed and settled down. She was paired up with a new friend and adopted out a couple of times I believe but the story was the same..she became a massive bully and was returned.
Apparently she was up and down on the website from people dropping out, deciding she was "too much". So, when I was reading Cherry and Pearls bios again after reserving them I saw she was back up again and sent an inquiry about her. She needed a herd, she absolutely couldn't be kept in a pair or trio. I decided I could offer her exactly what she needed. Family.
She made it very clear she was not happy in quarantine so after a day or so she went into one of my herds. I was expecting trouble as she had shown aggression towards the other 2 I adopted but..nothing. she settled and was accepted so quickly. She was finally home.
Bella grew into an absolute unit of a guinea pig, hitting 1350g at one point, she was so large I took her to the vet querying hypothyroidism at one point, which she repayed me for by peeing all down the poor vets shirt and trousers. Always making a scene wherever she went
She loved her herd, but the absolute love of her life was Paddington. Who sheltered her from the others and coaxed out the softer more gentle side Bella had been hiding deep down. Unfortunately we lost Paddington to bladder cancer not long after, she never became as close to any of the others but I think she was secretly pretty fond of new husboar Dylan, and she tolerated the introduction of babies Popcorn and Kiwi with good humour.
Watching her mellow into an old lady of over 8 years old has been a pleasure.
Bella, thankyou for trusting me to know what you needed. You fought through your stroke with dignity and never once let it get between you and a good vegetable. Unfortunately your body was tired, even if your spirit wasn't quite ready to go. But I am sure Paddington was waiting for you eagerly at the bridge.
Thankyou for being my "good excuse" for adding piggies to your herd so you didn't start kicking off again
without you, Ivy, Popcorn, Kiwi and Banjo could've ended up who knows where.. and Amelia who recently joined us too.
It's been an absolute pleasure to be your forever home and we will miss you so much.
